As soon as I walked in the door I was welcomed by name and a big smile, setting the tone for the stay. All the staff, even if their English was poor, were friendly and helpful, using their English as best they could to help me in any way they could. One of the managers spoke good English, and was very helpful in helping me plan more of my trip, including spending quite some time with me looking for hotel in Asahikawa. Super service all round.

The room was spacious and standard Japanese Ryokan style. Every day the futon was put away during the day, then relaid every evening, along with fresh tea/ice water. On the first evening, I was given a special welcome drink in the room, along with some local sweets.

Breakfast was Japanese style, and pretty nice. There was plenty of food, even if you don’t like a tasty salmon and rice in the morning.

There is a 24 hour Japanese style bath, which was very pleasant. The location is pretty good, around 10 mins walk from the station, and right next to the Botanical Gardens.

My only complaint was that wifi wasn’t available in the room (only in the lobby, which allows smoking).

Arrived very late, just before midnight and was pleased to discover in the correspondence there was no curfew at this place! Check in was smooth and we were showed to our room on floor up from the Front Desk (confusing for British travellers, since First floor in Japan is Ground Floor). The room comes with tatami style beds (removed by housekeeping during the day, however we never used the room during the day and asked Housekeeping not to bother when we were asked on night if they could come and rearrange the beds not knowing the beds had been removed). The Spa facilities were at the same floor as the room. It is lush to soak in the hot baths after a long days worth of sightseeing. The JR Central Station is walkable, however we took a cab upon arrival, cost us around 800 yen. On the way back to the airport we walked to the JR Station. The Sapporo Botanical Gardens is a stone's throw away from this Ryokan/Inn. We certainly enjoyed Sapporo thoroughly, the local cuisine and the Beer Festival. Friendly service. Nice traditional breakfast was included in our rate and served on a tray with the "Western" style buffet as a top up option. There is a beer vending machine handy. The Front Desk Staff also sell some light snacks etc.
Oh, the pillows. Japanese traditional pillows are FIRM to say the least with some grovel style little balls on one side :)

This hotel is located near the botanical garden, so it is big advanyage of this place. Pices depends of the season. Rooms are decorated in tatami styly. It is worth to taste meals here, they offers very delicious, typical japanese food.

We wanted to stay in a ryokan close to the station - and found this to be perfect: very easy to book online, and to find on foot from the station. We had a lovely, large, well-lit room with a good-sized bathroom. Everything was very clean and comfortable. The staff were delightful - very helpful, most spoke English, and all were ready to advise on directions, food, etc. The maid went out of her way to find a yukata to fit my young son. We were served tea on arrival and there was always plentiful green tea with jugs of boiling/iced water available in the room. We loved this ryokan and hope to return.

I had one night to stay in Sapporo and wanted a place i could walk to from the main train station, ski gear in tow, without paying a business premium.

Nakamura delivered with an authentic Japanese style, large room, and a huge breakfast. The staff accomldated an early morning and storage of my ski gear. The abbreviated tea ceremony upon checking in was a nice surprise after a long day.

I can easily reccomend Nakamura Ryokan as a place to stay in Sapporo.

With one night to spend in Sapporo before heading out to visit the National Parks in Hokkaido, I was looking for a convenient place to stay, near Sapporo station. It was very easy to book the room via email and in English.

Nakamuraya Ryokan is actually very close to the station and easy to find. The staff was really nice and friendly, and they provided us with a map of the area. We were also welcomed to our room with some tea and tasty japanese sweets.

The room was very cute, japanese style. There was a bathroom inside, and everything was really clean. We did not use the japanese bath in the ryokan though.

The futons were fine to sleep on, but I don't really like the pillows they often give out in ryokans. It feels like they are full of little spheres and not really comfortable. Other than that, it was really quiet and we had a good night sleep.

All in all, it is a nice place to stay in Sapporo, also very convenient if you want to stay close to the JR train Station.

If you are new with the Ryokan experience (Japanese style hotel), then Nakamuraya is highly recommended. The hotel workers are very familiar with dealing with english speaking guests and they know some of the issues that they encounter. They will take your booking via email and they are very helpful when you arrive.
We stayed in room 302 which was on the southern side (street) of the building, and it was really nice to see the low winter sun streaming into our room.
The public bath on the second floor is a little small but it's great to be able to soak up to your neck in very hot bath water (43 degrees!). If you are not used to hot baths, be sure to check your heath before you try this out with your family doctor. The water is so hot that it makes your finger tips tingle, but that's the way I like it. Most non-Japanese would not be used to such temperatures (kids, esp), so make sure you can handle these high temperatures.
The only disappointment was that the food choice was limited for dinner because of the new year holidays, and also some items at breakfast was cold (chips), but other than that, the experience of a ryokan is much better than a boring western hotel.

Room Tip: Try and get a south-facing room. It's great to see the sun light streaming into your room. The...
