The location can be a plus or minus depending on how you see it. It's not in the central part of Sapporo (in fact, 10 min away at Shin Sapporo station), which means that if the sights in central part are your focus, you would be traveling quite a bit.
However as a JR pass holder, it is convenient to stop at a station where there is less madness and chaos, yet be relatively well connected to other stops of interest, eg. Otaru.
Rooms are fairly basic though comfortable. The sheets are nice and crisp, and service is v forthcoming despite the basic amenities provided.
