“A pleasant experience overall!”
Reviewed July 14, 2013

I reserved this hotel through their website after finding out its rather convenient location, less than 5 minutes walk from the JR Sapporo train station. The front desk staff are very friendly and to my surprise speak rather good English. The hotel rooms are small, we stayed in a standard twin room and after settling in our luggage, there was hardly any space left! Cleanliness was impeccable, I particularly like the heated toilet seat which was really a blessing in a cold morning! Free WiFi is available in all hotel rooms with fairly high speed. Overall, this is a nice hotel in a good location with a reasonable price.

A 7minute walk from JR Sapporo station: exit on south side of the station, you will see Daimaru department store on your right side, walk towards that direction, pass the Century Royal Hotel, and Mitsui Garden Hotel is next. The hotel faces a multistorey car park & rental agency. The rooms are of very good size by Japanese standard, and the housekeeping staff pulls down all the blinds on the lower floors (because the view is the carpark). So you will be better off with higher floors. Inside the room, there is a huge LCD TV, which actually heats up (producing a lot of energy). The best thing about the hotel is the bath on 2nd floor, open from 3pm onwards. Male guests are given a brown access card to go to the male side of the bath. Female guests are given a different color access card for their respective bath. The bath house is very clean, has warm pool that can fit in 14 people. On winter days, it is a popular spot to warm up. Staff at Mitsui Garden Hotel are pleasant. Breakfast is separately charged. There are no computers for guests, but wifi is available for free in the room.

This is my last stop before I leave Japan, and after a night of soft bed, what I wanted most is a bed which I can have a proper night to rest. I was pleasantly surprised by this hotel. First and foremost, the room is more spacious than the hotel that I stayed in Tokyo in my last trip. Next, their bed is made of good quality mattress with a nice pillow. I am always mindful that hotel rooms in city is very small, this one was good, the toilet is very spacious.

I would highly recommend this hotel!

Room Tip: The carpark entrance is on the side road.

The hotel is nice and clean with modern decor. Think the hotel is only 3 years old so the facilities are new. They also have a car park which charge only 1000 jpy a day, a lot cheaper than parking lots on the street. The hotel also has a hot springs room on offer fr 6-9am and 3pm-1am, it's well maintained and is perfect to dip in after a long sightseeing/shopping day.

Location wise the hotel is situated 3 minutes away from Daimaru and the train station can be accessed via the underground shopping alley conveniently.

I will definitely stay here again!

Convenient location, near to JR station. Short walk about 2-3 blocks from JR station. Checking in was breeze, staff at the reception are friendly, and speak good English. Book a twin room, consider as big room, as I find small double room in Japan hotels too small. Enjoyed the public bath, clean & help us to relax after a day out & about. Nearby Sapporo station, there's few dept stores, eg Daimaru, there's also underground shops. Many options for eating here. However, no direct access to underground walkway or subway access, there's some set-back there if you need to explore via subway. For us with JR pass and we are fully utilizing it, so this hotel location close to JR Station is a better option.

Room Tip: Could try ask from the reception on a set/box of tool (router?) to have WIFI access in room.

Overall had a great 3 night stay at Mitsui Garden Sapporo.

Pros:
1. Staff speak good English
2. Modern and very clean rooms (pay a few dollars extra for the twin room compared with the double if you don't mind 2 beds, significantly bigger room and bigger bathroom)
3. Free internet in all rooms
4. Public bath clean and relaxing after a day of shopping
5. Room cleaning is very thorough
6. Close to Sapporo station and the big department store Daimaru and other shopping centres. Lots of food options in these places as well.

Cons:
1. No direct access to the underground walkway which connects to a large part of the city, need to cross the street and walk down to the underground walkway. Not a problem in warmer weather but in winter would have been nice to just go straight down to the underground walkway without having to put lots of layers on to brave the cold for 2 minutes to take it all off again. Some other hotels do have direct access.

Overall: enjoyed staying here, price is reasonable, however if you are booking early enough there may be other hotels which have good deals and are more convenient with direct access to the underground walkway

Room Tip: Pay a bit more for a twin room compared to a double room if you don't mind sleeping in 2 separat...
