Sapporo Ramen Kyowakoku is a collection of 8 famous ramen shops in Hokkaido, who have come together in 1 place. This is on the 10th floor of the ESTA building, immediately east of the JR station in Sapporo.
The layout makes it seem like an old style market, with each store having a different configuration, and the whole place is laid out like along an old-style street. It makes the atmosphere so much better than the usual food courts where each stall is next to the other, in a straight row. However, each store was small and expect to share tables during peak hours.
All the stores sell ramen (only) and it was difficult to distinguish which would be the best to try. We then had to fall back on the time-tested method - go to the one with the longest queue with Japanese there ! (also avoid those that looked too quiet with too few customers).
The ramen was great and the warm stock hit the spot on a cold day outside.
