This hotel design is very spacious and cosy, furthermore it is located at Susukino where you can find many eateries, restaurants and cafe till midnight. Hotel staff are friendly and some can speak good English. Wifi is available and is very convenient for travelers.

Stayed for 3 nights from 21st July. Hassle-free check in and room was spotless and laid our perfectly for us. Attentive staffs as well. The requested baby cot was sent to us and laid out neatly despite the small size room. We were able to make the best out of the standard size room, for the 4 of us (my wife & me, our 3 yrs old son & 9 mths old baby girl).

Location as have been mentioned by other posters here is superb, located right in the middle of the happening Susukino area. convenient stores, plenty of restaurants are abundance. Not too far to the main JR Station & Odori Park as well. Within walking distances.

Food for breakfast was good, in terms of choices. Atmosphere of its Bordeaux Restaurant is perfect.

You want a hassle-free stay in the Susukino area of Sapporo, this is the hotel.

Room Tip: Ask for room that commands the view of the main street below. We didnt specify this and got the room...

I picked the Mercure Sapporo at the recommendation of posters here. We stayed here for 2 nights on the15th floor for 13000 Yen (appx. $130) per night. The room is typical small Japanese style but well appointed and probably slightly larger than most of the Japanese Hotel we've stayed at. You can't beat the location, its in the middle of the most "happening" place known as susukino (すすきの). There are soooo many food places you could easily trip over and hit 20 different restaurants. You can't beat the location of this hotel. We were give the top floor of the hotel and has a nice view of the city.

We arrived Sapporo Central Train Station and switched to the subway (SS for Sapporo Subway). The Mercure is only 1 station away and probably a 12 mins walk for a fast walker. If we didn't travel w/ our 4 years old, we'd probably hike the trail. There are 2 things here I need to point out:
1) If you are the type that opt for Taxi, this would not be an efficient way to go from Train Station. The traffic is so bad, you would arrive at the Mercure 20~25 mins later and out $15~$20 of cab fare. I would NOT recommend the taking the cab unless you are physically unable to walk or just chuggling alot of luggage (more than 2 pieces per person).

2) The Mercure and another hotel pitched in for a free shuttle. Be forwarned that the is a high demand for this and you may end-up on the "next shuttle" 30 mins later. But it is free, and exact the location of the shuttle is HERE (http://tinyurl.com/ltlorqk) The suttle will take about 25 mins to get back to hotel but its a free option.

There are lots of "tourist" trap here and not something we are interested in. Yes there is a "ramen alley" but it seems very "touristy" a search online on this topic pretty much said the best ramen are not at the touristy alley. We asked the hotel staff where they would go and the 2 recommendations are nowhere near the alley :-)

I did some laundry at the Capsule Hotel at the suggestion of another poster. some additional tips here, 1) Its a men's hotel so, don't go there unless you want to see guys in their boxer shorts and topless at the lobby. In fact, don't go there if you are a female.

2) The stacked washer and dryer takes FOREVER to dry clothing (its the 100 volt dryer, what do you expect?) figure 30 mins to wash (detergent can be purchased from the front desk clerk at the Capsule Hotel) and 40~60 mins to dry. There are 2 washers and 2 dryers. I was the only person using it at the time so I used up both dryers trying to cut the drying process.

We accidently stumpped onto the Sapporo Summer Beer Fest (http://www.insidejapantours.com/fully-tailored-japan-holidays/i-fst3/sapporo-beer-festival-jul-and-aug-/)
My wife and I are HUGE beer lover and this was just perfect for us. This is the Oktoberfest of the Japanese version. Having attented a couple Oktobetfest in Munich, this is pretty damn close (without the carnival rides of weisen) The food are Japanese and (semi) German You can have edoname and Pretzel, Weiner, and roast chicken or pork. Every brewery is here and the beer garden isn't limited to odori park (Odori park is the biggest) Even the German breweries are here (Frankenskaner etc.) I didn't bother w/ the German brew, as they are alot more expensive and I can always get those back in US. Pretty much stuck w/ the home base brewery SAPPORO.

Anyways.. enjoy the hotel and Sapporo. This is a great region to visit and we'll be back!!

In December 2012 we spent a few nights at the Mercure Hotel Sapporo prior to skiing in Furano. We chose the Mercure for the location, price and interconnecting rooms(as we were travelling with our two children). We were not disappointed with our choice as the rooms were comfortable and not too small, very clean and the hotel was conveniently located. We walked to most attractions, shops and restaurants. The breakfasts were great. We easily walked a few blocks up the road to catch our bus to Furano on departure. We would not hesitate in booking here again in the future.

Room Tip: Interconnecting and non smoking rooms were great for our family.

We spent 4 nights at this hotel. Agree with the previous reviewers - what we got for a very very resonable price well exceeded our expections. The room and the bathroom were larger than average japanese hotel rooms. The room was well furnished and spotless, fast free wi fi in the room and even a charger for various types of smartphones (very handy if you did not bring a Japanese adaptor). The staff were very friendly, including a nice French manager who gave us good tips on the area, car rental, etc. Only one English TV channel (BBC) but we didn't care - you don't go to Japan to watch TV. The hotel is located in Susukino which is THE place to be in Sapporo for eating and drinking. Ramen Alley, Daruma lamb chengiz hkan grill restaurant, famous crab restaurant, seafood market, etc are walking distance. There is a nice bar with a great view of sapporo just around the corner from the hotel (Electric Sheep). Close to public trasnport and airport bus stop a few minutes walk away. We stayed 1 night before our flight at another hotel in Sapporo near the train station. it was more expensive with tiny rooms and no wi fi. If we ever go back to Sapporo will definetely stay at Mercure again. It was a very pleasant surprise for the price we paid.
PS If you need to have laundry done there is a coin laundy at the Capsule Inn hotel a few minutes walk. They would normally allow you to use it even if you are not staying (it is men only I think), Take your shoes off when you enter.
PPS Make sure you have lunch or breakfast at the seafood market - 10-15 min walk from Mercure. There is a stall run by an older couple, amazingly fresh sushi.

Room Tip: Ask for a higher floor for a view of Sapporo

We stayed for 6 days and had so much to do and see. The concierge is excellent and help us to book day tours and call taxis, negotiate the best price to go to airport. There is also an airport limo bus stop accros the hotel. But due to rain we opt a taxi.
The hotel serve good breakfast for 1600yen if book together with room. We ate without prior booking so had to pay 1800 yen per person. The reception is on 3rd floor. Once you got out of hotel, its restaurants every corners in every streets. We are at Susukino area, so shops open very late. We can walk underground. There are shops lining and the underground serves the train stations as well. From Susukino, we can walk to Odori park and up to JR Sapporo station. Free from sun, wind, rain and snow. The only downside of hotel is no drawer space for clothes and hanging space is pretty limited. We would still cone again if we have another chance of coming to Sapporo. All the receptionest and concierge can speak English and are ready to offer you with maps of Sapporo. Thank you n keep up your excellent good work.

Centrally located, 2 stops from Sapporo JR station. Everything is within reach. The famous Ramen Alley is around the corner of the hotel, and many restaurants to choose from. The hotel is modern, well maintained with all the necessary amenities privided. Room and bathroom size are above Japanese standard, all in all, this hotel is beyond value for money and is highly recomended.
