“Fantastic for the family”

Takino Suzuran Hillside National Park
Ranked #10 of 438 things to do in Sapporo
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed August 1, 2013

I have been there twice. The place is beautiful, relaxing and full of fun. It is a country park 45 min drive from Sapporo city. You may hike, enjoy the scenery while the kids are going to love the fancy playground with slides, trampoline, maze and a hillock to roll big red balls. The ticket is very reasonable (400 Yen). This is my No.1 pick for Families.

It's a very beautiful and huge park. We travelled with a 3 yo and a 20-month. We spent a few days in Furano earlier the trip. They had fun over there but nothing can beat the Takino park. They loved the bouncy bed. The long slides are for 3 yo plus. My daughter tried once but she was a bit intimated by the speed and didn't want to try again. She should have put on a helmet they provided. She also had a chance to challenge herself in the indoor net maze. It can only be entered by kids so we could only give her verbal instruction step by step. It's wonderful she dealt with her fear and conquered it. The big green lawn was also amazing. Fun to let the kids to push the big red ball up the hill and row it down. This is a must go for family traveling with kids in Sapporo. Best for those with kids aged 3-10.

Definitely recommend this beautiful place with loads to do for kids. We spent virtually the whole day there. There are some fantastic spots for picnicking (and the restaurants aren't that great) so definitely worth taking a picnic. It takes approx 1 hour from central Sapporo by subway and bus.

My wife and I took our 4 year old to camp and play in the kid's park/play areas. He had the time of his life. His favorite area was the Rainbow Net area. We also went cycling on a couple of the paths leading up to the waterfalls. While the paths were a little short, the were good for our little guy. The park was immaculately kept and the camping area was great, with a large playground next to the camping site. We ate lunch in one of the cafes and the price of a set meal was reasonable and the portion size was good too. This is a much better place for kids to run, climb, and play than it would be to have them entertained at a regular amusement park. It was not overrun by commercialism as one would expect of a place for kids in the US. We will definitely go back again.

We visited the park with 2 boys 5 and 7 early june (summer) this year and it turned out to be the highlights of their 10 days Hokkaido trip. Moreover, the entrance fee is just a fraction (80 yen for children and free for those below 6. Adults only 400 yen) of what the major theme parks charges and we felt they had more fun here.

The playground is just so much fun. I do not know how to describe this and its best you see the website for yourself. http://www.takinopark.com.e.bn.hp.transer.com/.

We were there when it opens at 9am and thought we would leave around 1pm but left only at 4 pm and not because we have completed the park but we were too tired with all the climbing and jumping.

For us adults, we loved the wide open space, the beautiful surroundings and views. Best of all, we were there when the tulips are in full bloom. Just a day before, we were in Yubetsu for the tulip fair (1.2 million bulbs) and our conclusion is that this tulip display is better than the one at the fair. Yes, there are less tulips here (maybe ard 20% - 25% as compared to the fair), but we feel the tulips were arranged more nicely and combined with the gorgeous setting, it just looked great. Therefore, for those who are considering the long drive to yubetsu, if you do not have the time, you can just visit the park.
