Capsule Inn Sapporo

This is a pretty standard capsule hotel. If you're on a tight budget, then this is the place for you. Otherwise pay the extra 1500 yen to get a single room at the youth hostel. This capsule hotel was clean; staff were helpful and facilities (communal bath, toilets and TV room) were adequate. The internet was very slow when I stayed and not possible to do skype. I recommend to bring a set of earplugs because there's a few snorers around. Location is quite good, next to subway and about 20 minutes' walk to the central train station and shopping centre.

I missed the last train home and stayed here overnight instead. The man at reception spoke good English and told me to put my shoes in a locker. I handed him the key. You don't get your shoes back until you check out.
In typical Japaese style, the lockers for your bags are in the basement, and the showers are on the 7th floor. You stay somewhere in between. Each floor has a lounge, sinks and toilets. There are toothbrushes but no toothpaste. The temperature in the sleeping areas must have been about 30 degrees C. There was an air-con vent in my capsule but no way to switch it on. The capsule is not lockable. A flimsy roll-down bamboo screen separates you from the hallway. I am average height (180cm) and my feet were sticking out. Linen was provided but I did not see the promised Yukatas.

Sleeping was difficult. The TV in the lounge area was on all night. Sound travels very easily between capsules, which have their own radios and TVs built-in. It was a lousy night's sleep. I would have been better off in a hostel or even in an internet cafe. Avoid this place.

I had one night in the Capsule Inn - and was pleasabtly impressed. The 'beds' are fairly spacious and it was quiet. The spa facilities were excellent. The location was good to find late at night when I arrived in Sapporo by train - a quick ride on the metro. The Susikino area is very brash and bright, but the inn is off the main thoroughfare so noise was not a problem. Sapporo itself is well worth exploring - I recommend the Botanic Gardens
