The SSAW stands for Spring Summer Autumn and Winter and in Chinese it is called the "4 seasons". It is nothing like the REAL Four Seasons but that's not to say that it is a bad hotel. I suspect it might be a bit harder for someone with no Chinese to get good (or any) service at this hotel and the staff are very matter of fact, but they were generally helpful. No porter service was offered but it is a 2 star hotel after all.
We booked the city view room and got given a corner room on the 11th floor (possibly the highest habited floor ) which was nice and quiet, and overlooked the street and if you peered hard from the corner of your window, a view of the West Lake.
The bed was comfortable enough and there was free wireless internet which was fast and problem free ( a sight better than the internet offered at the Westin on the Bund in Shanghai). The bathroom is a tad small and contrary to what I'd expected from reading some of the reviews, the glass surrounding the shower area is opaque and definitely not see through. The sink area is against a wall of transparent glass but you can pull the blinds down if you wanted some privacy. There is no wardrobe - you hang your clothes on a ladder leaning against the wall which might be problematic for people with larger travelling wardrobes.
The tv is a nice big flat screen and they have some English channels.
We got free breakfasts with our room and you have it between 730am till 1030am at the restaurant on the 13th floor. There was a good selection of local breakfast food (congee, noodles, buns, local pastries) but also cereal, fruit, sliced bread, croissants, fried eggs, sausages and ham for people who'd prefer something more western.
The hotel is 10 mins walk away from Hubin Lu and the West Lake. Also there is a nightmarket down the lane opposite the hotel every night - it is jam packed and sells all sorts of things - clothes, shoes, plates and cutlery, umbrellas, DVDs, electronics etc. There is some snack food at one end of the market though they sell mainly cool spicy noodles and fish balls only.
