As they sayn in the real estate busines, "Location, location, location!" The Shangri La, is an older beautifully maintained hotel separated from the lake shore by a leafy boulevard. The rooms are well appointed, and well equipped. And thankfully the bathroom is not a 'see through' affair which seems to be the fashion in so many better hotels in China these days!! Very comfortable beds, and good air conditioning. Excellent restaurant. But the things we liked best were 1) the location and 2) the service.
The location couldn't be more convenient; the lake is g\orgeous, with cafes and boats readily available. For bikers, bike rental is available at the hotel's health club, and you can ride for miles around the lake. For walkers, well, the lakeside walks start right out the hotel's front door.
Likewise, the well regarded nightly 'sound and light' show is a 5 minute walk away.Hikers can find the start of a paved, stepped trail up the little mountain behind the hotel is only 2 blocks away. For more serious hikes, longer paths begin a 30 minute cab ride to the other side of the lake, and up past the Tea Museum, where you can hike for hours on paved, stepped paths through the tea fields.
But what really distinguished this hotel for us was the willing, even eager, helpfulness of the staff; they literally could not do enough for us! The concierge service was terrific as well.
We would return in a heartbeat!
