We stayed at the Lotus Glade as part of a 9-day trip in China. Our driver and guide had a great deal of difficulty locating this property. There was no signage on the main road and when we finally found the entrance, we were barred from entering the road by two very unfriendly guards. Heated words were exchanged, a call was made to the hotel, and finally a woman walked down the lane and sorted things out and we were allowed to proceed. Our vehicle could not drive up to the entrance of the property and we had to drag our bags over very bumpy paths to our cabin. (Note: this is not a "hotel" - it is a group of small cabins).
All-in-all, once found, the location was beautiful, the cabin, although tiny, was cute and cozy, and we enjoyed our two nights here. Our cabin had very limited space for luggage - a closet with two broken hangers, no drawers, and no luggage rack. Definitely not a place for anyone with lots of luggage! This would be a perfect romantic weekend get-away.

This property is just wonderful - upscale cabins set in the most beautiful setting - scattered among trees and tropical plants just a few steps from the shore of West Lake. The cabins are cozy but nice touches and very nice bathroom with nice features and thick white towels. Very clean. Number 53 overlooks a lotus pond and has a private patio out back.

Be sure to visit the pagoda overlooking the lake - great photo spot just out the back gate- across the stone bridge and around the bend! Walk in any direction for amazing flowers, water features, lots of stone bridges, architecture etc. The path along the lake is beautiful. The park across the street is a huge botanic garden and is not crammed with hundreds of tourists.

Starbucks is about ten minute walk - go to the street, turn right and follow sidewalk to first street - bear right - go down about two blocks. Shops along the way and KFC across the street. Angelo's pizza was wonderful.

Staff were very compentent and went out of their way to accomadate us - traveling with small children and family.

The location of this wonderful hotel is supurb, it is right on the lake - we had the cabin overlooking the water - what more can you ask.EVEN though the cabin is small, it is very cozy and has all the amenities you have at a much larger place. We had the pleasure of meeting Yi's boyfriend who came down from Shanghai to help out.The restaurant produces very good meals, since we did not feel like looking for restaurants, or taking a taxi to one. This is a much better alternative of staying in the city proper.

I hadn't realized how close to the lake we would be when I made the reservation, but in fact the easiest access to the hotel (aka huts, but Americans would call them cabins) was from the path around the lake itself! Very pleasant, and on a warm sunny evening in late April, a delight to sit outside for meals or just enjoying the air in the common courtyard. The cabins/rooms are small but pristine and comfortable. (I suppose if it were raining for days one would feel a little stuck.) Bathroom/shower modern and clean. Breakfasts were Chinese food only, although the wide array included fried eggs. A beautiful spot to enjoy West Lake. Note other reviews' comments about difficulty of finding Lotus Glade by taxi.

While the location of the hotel is nice, it is not as exclusive as many said. Yet our main disappointment came from the basic facility and quality of service of this hotel.

Firstly when we checked in, we were given a room that is basically the extension of the kitchen. We were given another room only after we repeatedly insisted we cannot accept the given room. The receiptionist said "you are unhappy only because it is an extension of the kitchen, but you are ok with the interior of the room, right?"

Then when we asked for an addional blanket, we were told to use the spare on in the closet, which had several blood stain on it. So was one of the towels. When I took it to the reception asking for a clean blanket and towel, I was told again by the same receptionist "I just need to give you a clean blanket cover, then you can use it. Also the towel stain is not dirty it is like that"

The room is extremely small, only 20sq m, and the bed is awfully soft. If you do not have a back problem, you will get one after one night. The telephone in the room does not have direct dial to the reception, so anything you need, you need to walk over there. And the heating / air condition does not work proper, you never know when it works and when it does not, so we ended our 4-day trip with serious cold.

One day, we returned to the hotel late evening, only to find a dirty used towel on the chair, no spare toilet paper, no slippers, nor water and tea cups not cleaned.

Given we literally only went to the hotel to sleep, we did not ask for much. A hotel should be a home away from home, but we do not feel being welcomed at all, and we did not have 1 night of good sleep, the bed was too soft and the room was too cold. Moreoever, staff in the hotel do not seem to make any effort to make you feel comfortable. It seems simply because they have a good location, they do not have to work on their quality of service. It is not upto international hotel standard at all. One day when we were leaving the hotel, we say dead chicken with organs lying on the kitchen floor.

Given the price quality ratio, this is definitely very bad value for money, and we will definitely will not come back to this hotel in the future

We just stayed here for 1 night. We had a 3yr old kid in tow. Finding the hotel was a little tough but once we got the cab driver on the phone, the location was sorted out. It's a bit of a walk form the road (about 100m) to the reception. They were very welcoming upon arrival. No complaints. I guess they made sure there was someone to speak English, because no one else could do so.

The villa we had (505) was nice, small (probably about 12ft x 18ft), had a bay window (which we got them to convert to a kid's bed at RMB50 more) with a quiet view of the garden and glimpses of the lake. The room was a bit of a squeeze honestly. The bathroom smelt especially when the exhaust fan was turned ON...so we kept it off. Lastly, at night, there were lots of mosquitoes/bugs...so watch out for that when entering/exiting the room. Frankly surprised no one else seems to have mentioned them. They didn't really bug us in the room though, pun intended :)

The reception offered a map, but it was only in Mandarin, no English at all. We later got an English guidebook (free) from one of the tourist information booths. I wonder why they can't just keep the same in the hotel?

The hotel offers direct access over a bridge to the walk around the lake...it's nice. Watch out on the way back after sundown as the path is not well lit. Also plan your return to the hotel after dinner...we made the mistake of walking back to the hotel for dinner. First of all we were lucky that the English speaking staff stayed behind after her shift and helped us out with the ordering. But then again the menu was limited to local stuff that - to us, after 9 days in China - was just not appetising and frankly over-priced. We ordered a chicken that never showed up, and after about 30mins, only after I asked, were we told that it wasn't available. I guess the quality of service - though polite - was not up to the standard of a good hotel.

When we come back to Hangzhou, we'll probably stay in one of the big chains, mainly becos we've experienced this and we know what we want to expect.

On a brighter note, if you want to have a different perspective, it's a nice place to consider staying.

Room Tip: Get a villa with a view of the lake, but they have only 2 and these are in demand.

Good service, from train station pick up to check out. Great location close to the city close to the mountains and right on the shores of the lake !!! Rooms are very cosy but some too small. However their suite is very nice, we stayed for one last night and very much enjoyed the space. I think best time to stay is in summer as in winter you need to let the air-condition run 24/7. Breakfast however was very pour - this part needs some serious improvement, especially as there are not many restaurants around and breakfast is the most important meal of the day. I will definitely recommend this hotel to my friends and will be back soon. Staff will give you any information you need. Thank you!

Room Tip: #515....is great for summer.....small but has it's own deck #501....little bit bigger but nicel...
