“Should have had the hotpot”
Reviewed June 26, 2012

We went here for a late lunch and had an OK meal. We ordered glutinous rice with duck, fried noodles and some bao. The rice tasted pretty good, but was very heavy and the bao were delicious, but looked nothing like the ones on the menu. The noodles were nothing like the ones on the menu either and were not very good - very oily and not spicy at all. The menu is very overwhelming. It is the size of a magazine and has too many different dishes on it. It was not a bad meal, but we definitely would not have ordered what we did with hindsight. We will try it again, but will go for the hotpot which does look great.

“Delicious and cheap”
Reviewed October 30, 2010

This chain restaurant (川味观) is located in many cities and as the title suggests, its Sichuan cuisine, meaning that many of the dishes are spicy. We went for the hot pot, and all of the ingredients were fresh. Five of us ate and drank and the bill was a little under 300 RMB so quite reasonable for this caliber of restaurant. It is also open late. One dish I had, which I had never had before was drunk shrimp (醉虾) which are small shrimp served live in an alcohol based sauce. You must wait until they become fully drunk before eating them still moving in your mouth. Tastes alright, but the real plus is the novelty. Of course, as this is China, there is no need to tip.
