I've been in Hangzhou for over 6 years and Grandma's remains our favorite restaurant. Our local friends say that the taste differs from one Grandma's to another but their dishes are generally good and relatively easy on the pocket.

On the downside, they don't take phone reservation so you have to be at the restaurant really early to book a table. There's usually a huge crowd of people outside waiting to be seated. If you can't come early, at least choose the time when the first batch of diners would be ready to leave.

If you want to avoid the crowd, you can have the food delivered through Dianwoba - not all dishes are available for delivery, though.

There are now many Grandma's around the city but we frequent the one in Wen'er West Rd since it's the closest to my place.

If you want good price no nonsense chinese food do as all Hangzhounese do: head for one of the many waibo jia outlets in town. My favourite is the one at Hangzhou Dasha, but there are many and they are all more or less the same.
It's often difficult to find a table on lunch or dinner hours

Sometimes it feels like eating something else that chicken feet and snake. Then Grandma's is a half step in the direction of western style however without letting go of the Chinese cousin.

1.This is where the locals go every day.
2.For dinner usually locals start get in at 5pm. If you miss the timing, try it later after 7:30pm, after the first round of customers leave.
3. Good value: with an Avg. spending 50rmb per person, you can enjoy the fish, beef or pork and vegetables you like.
4. Environment: Always crowded but hygiene is good. So do not dream of tranquility.
