“Great hotel, highly recommended for Hangzhou”
Reviewed January 17, 2010

This was the first time I stayed at an Orange hotel. I will certainly stay again at this or another one, based on our very good experience here. First, the location. Right across from West Lake, pretty central being only 10 minute walk from the cutsie pedestrian tourist street. It's a bit of a walk to decent eats from the hotel, but not so bad. Second, the room. We got a standard room and I loved it even though it was not large. Very modern, clean lines, fun glass bathroom wall has a shade if you want privacy. The heater worked well in the winter. Everything was designed for good function, and the desk is long enough for both of us to use computers. Internet is free, either wired or WiFi. Bathroom is very nice and sleek. I loved having a goldfish in the room! What a nice touch, giving guests a living creature to come "home" to. That really made a difference, even though the goldfish we had the first day was dying and we had to get a new one. Third, service. Very good. At least one staff member on each shift speaks English so there was no problem, and most are friendly. Unfortunately the staff does not know anything about their network system--the WiFi suddenly stopped working and instead of resetting their router they just gave us an ethernet cord. Luckily we travel with a WiFi router so both of us could go online. The night shift girl was a little surly. We asked for food for our goldfish and she didn't even smile, just abruptly said "No, we already feed the fish!" Pretty mean considering we were asking for something so innocent. Other than that there is a high degree of professionalism here. When you leave your bags after checkout, they actually keep them in a safe place in the office and you get a luggage tag! Not like some hotels that just place them to the side and not so secure. Although not cheap, the value for this hotel is good. The bicycles for guests are invaluable--the first 2 hours are free and after that it's only 5RM for the day. What a great service to offer for guests. We rented them for two full days and cycled the entire lake two days in a row. Hangzhou is nice that way, and Crystal Orange is a great place to stay. It has all the good aspects of a chain (professional standards of service) with a fresh, young approach to the industry. As an aside, the Dragonfly spa next door is professional and reasonably priced :)

Booked through the hotel booking hotline. Stayed in superior king room for 3 nights.

THE UPs
- Modern interior design (but not yet a boutique hotel in my opinion)
- Comfortable. Clean and tidy room
- Friendly and attentive staff
- Good location: near to West Lake / 15 minutes taxi ride to town center
- Ticket of certain sights can be purchased from the concierge (e.g. Impression West Lake)
- Value for money

THE DOWNs
- Limited choices of breakfast
- Not many restaurant around the area
- Avoid room next to the main street although the window was double-layered

All smiles. A happy hotel club member now and will definitely stay in this hotel again.

I stayed at the Crystal Orange hotel for 5 nights. As I read other good reviews, I decided to adventure off the known international brand names (Accor, Marriott, etc). Well, let's see...the up side: It's a very well located hotel, neat place, good room sizes and very stlylish. I booked online and got a very good rate, a deluxe room and free internet, despite it did not offer breakfast in the rates available. Which in fact did not turn up to be that bad, because breakfast there is totally chinese oriented. It only offered juice/milk and some black water they called "coffee". Some bananas, oranges and a fried egg - and that's that for a "western" breakfast. I spent 5 days eating toasted bread, milk and some bananas for my morning meal. Forget about room service - if you get hungry at 10PM, run to the next neighbohood grocery store to get something to eat or take a cab to KFC, Mc or so. Also, only some of the staff spoke very, very little english, but most spoke no english at all. In summary, the hotel has a lot of potential, because it's apartments are roomy, well designed, and confy, but its totally chinese oriented yet. If they decide to serve well foreigners, improve breakfast, implement room services and hire english speaking personel. Them it'll be perfect!!
