Comparatively to most local hotel, this hotel is generally fairly acceptable for a short stay over a night or two. The best of the hotel is perhaps its location which is near to West Lake, walking distance of about 15-20 minutes. If you like a more international-level based hotel, this is not an ideal one yet this hotel is trying very hard but yet, still missing unique spirit and feel for a memorable touch. Some parts of the hotel is old which really needs some serous refurbish.

Made a big mistake to choose this hotel after last minute replacement on Sofitel Hangzhou Westlake hotel that I booked earlier. Choose this hotel for its 5 star as advertised but it was not worth the money for its poor service, comfort and location.

Location is far from lake and town area, nothing to explore nearby. Location is off as many has commented it is not easy to get a cab.

We asked the front desk to buy us D-train ticket to Shanghai but front desk requested extra fee (his out-of-working time + taxi claim + tips) on top of the services fee for the train ticket (standard train ticket + service fee) which was unheard off in a 5-star hotel.

The air-conditional was not cooling at all considering it was summer. We requested the staff to check the air-conditioning twice and the service staff came only 1 hour later.

More nightmare came at night when electricity was cut-off out of the sudden at around 8pm +, and we had to stay in the dark for more than 10minutes! What a lousy service.

I would not recommend anyone to try this one. Great hardware (new lobby, well decorated), but lousy software (service)!

I recently stayed at this hotel. And, though advertised....there is NO GYM and NO POOL When I asked the front desk about this, they said "maybe next year". I did not press them that not ONLY is it advertised that they have these all over the web, but even in the room it is advertised.

The rooms are nice, and the beds (and pillow size) ARE comfortable, but there are some things that outweigh that.

First, the bathrooms are nice, large and good lighting options.....separate shower with one of those from the ceiling rainforest shower heads....and the bath is nice. BUT.......it takes up to 20 minutes for the bath to fill, and once it does....it is cool. You see, the water temperature NEVER gets really hot. I would say one step above luke warm. They have a really nice bath.....but no hot water. So you get in, and after 2 minutes you are taking a less than luke warm bath.

There is a large tv with all the Chinese stations, a Japanese station, BBC and HBO in the rooms.

Internet was free and fast in the room. Not wifi, but there is a wire at the writing desk. Just plug it into the computer and go. Easy.

The mini bar has some drinks, and one snickers bar.

The roomservice menu leaves a lot to be desired, and is presented as a somewhat crumpled photocopy. Not professional.

The breakfast was included and there was a large spread that went until about 10 in the morning.

NOBODY smiled. It was strange. In fact, overall the front desk staff, while efficient (they came right away to fix some loose fixtures in the room), are NOT friendly. Not at all.

Upon checking out, and this was CRAZY, we asked the bellman to get us a taxi to the airport. He made one call and said "Sorry, I cannot get you a taxi". That was it. A 5 star hotel, and after one call, the bellman gives up and says "I cannot get you a taxi". Made NO attempt to go into the street and flag one down. As soon as he said this, I went outside, and in 2 minutes had flagged one down.

I am thinking that the staff needs NEW people to train them in costumer service.

It's location is about a 15 minute walk to the lake, NOT 7. The walk is easy, safe, and pleasant, but NOT 7 minutes. It is quiet at night, and surrounded by green hills (not mountains). And NOT being RIGHT on the lake can be a good thing, as there is ALOT of honking of horns on the main streeets, where MOST of the nicer hotels are. Here, very quiet.

There were many other foreigners in the hotel from all over the world.

Oh, one other thing, also told there were NO non-smoking rooms. They just do not have them. My room did not smell like smoke luckily, but STILL to not offer that as an option is not good.

So overall, I would say the hotel has potential but, they need a total retraining of the front desk staff and bellstaff costumer service wise.

A better taxi system ( a shuttle to the airport would be a great add)

Stop false advertising and fix the water temperature.

If you asked me today (October 2008), I would not stay there again.

Seems to be a new five star hotel and lacks some services. They advertise hotel has a well equipped gym, but actually there is none yet. Restaurants and bars were quite empty and they don't have wine by glasses!

Room was very nice. The shower was not that good as it takes a while before you get hot water.

You can rent bicycles which is nice.

Some of the staff can speak English. Business center was not professional, did not understand international fax numbers (+86 xxx)!

For this price, hotel is ok. But don't expect a five-star experience.
