“great place to stay in a great city”

Caring staff, lovely rooms, good food, great location for seeing the city. Walk to indoor/outdoor bazaar. Beautiful mountain views. Management, front desk staff, business staff all went out of their way to help us when our daughter lost her passport.

The hotel seems to promise a lot with the marble, glass, and soaring ceiling of the lobby, but the watered-down, over-priced drinks at the bar, the aching air-conditioning, wavering wi-fi and worn carpets tell the true story. This place is getting by, more or less, and little money is going into routine maintenance. The pool is grimy, and swim at your own risk; the "gym/fitness center" is circa 1950. Outside, the lively street life of Kunming pulses on, so the location allows you to sample and savor the city. You'll leave here with a satisfactory experience; it's Kunming, after all.

Great location, 15 years old, mostly well maintained (pool has seen better days), rooms are very well appointed, so was very happy overall, with the exception of poor wifi that dropped out constantly and was slow when you could get online. Candy, the guest relations manager, was excellent, booked some train tickets for us and changed our room (twin to double as booked) all very efficiently. Room service was good, try the Yunnan strip pork. If you are looking for a late drink and a dance, the hotel does have a nightclub in the complex, open until 2am.

Room Tip: South facing slightly bigger rooms.

the location is in the heart of the Kunming city, walking distance to street food and many touristic shops. the rooms are comfortable, clean, and if you stay at a high floor (30+) you have a breathtaking view of the city especially at night. breakfast buffet where a western traveler will find a lot to eat.

Room Tip: try as high as possible, and a corner room.

This is one of the most prestigious 5 star hotels in Kunming. Any taxi driver will know how to drive there. Good location and good place. Most of the staff can speak some English. Near to the Railway station and the bus from New air port stop very closer to this Hotel. So, no need to get a taxi. Just get out of the airport to the bus parking area and get a ticket to Beijing Road.

Room Tip: It has a Chinese name as well. Many Taxi drivers know this place by the name "Jia Hua" (Pr...

Good size room with comfortable bed and pillows. Bright room, good shower and bath tub. The down side is the air conditioning as it seems that nothing happen when you adjust the temperature knob. The only consolation is that you can push the window open but be mind full it is a dangerous situation with kids around.

Breakfast is just normal with mostly Chinese selection and some basic Continental choices. Location wise, next to World Trade Centre.

So, I'm passing through Kunming and I learn that my layover will be stretched to a 1/2 day and there are no landside lounges (besides rooms for $15/hr) in the airport. Kai Wah seemed to be the most sensible choice in the middle of the city, a few blocks from the main train station. I was here over CNY, so it was migrant mayhem. The airport train doesn't connect with the station, so you will have to train + taxi. Or just taxi if you want to get ripped off.

The hotel was fine, although you have to expect some surprises with cleanliness and wear when you are in China, and Kunming is definitely no exception. The staffs have some English abilities, but don't try to get too technical with them.

Breakfast was pretty bad, and everything was pretty picked over and just cold. Didn't expect a breakfast, so not too disappointed here, and I think it also might be because I arrived as breakfast service was shutting down.

As for the neighborhood, Kunming is not really an interesting place, but was worth a good walk around the city for a few hours.

Fine choice, if you absolutely must visit Kunming for whatever reason. There's a newer IC somewhere near the city, but it will cost about 2x the price of this hotel.
