The museum is located right in the middle of the city with a lovely outdoor garden. The building itself is historical from the communist 70s era. Entry to the museum is free! There are 2 floors of perpetual collections, it deals with the historical and artistic aspect of Yunnan dating back to the prehistorical time. Most fascinating part is when it shows many aspects of lives of different minorities which reside in Yunnan province. Their costumes and musical instruments are fascinating and very beautiful. There is a good selection of original gifts but at slightly high price. On the ground floor, the exhibition changes all the time, we saw some beautiful Chinese calligraphy at the time of our visit. If you are in town, it is worth to spend an hour to two at this place, Monday is closed, do take notice.
