We stayed one night at Building B. We have also stayed at New Era Hotel for one night.

We came to Jin Jiang because it was bookable online and review said reception staff spoke English and it was near to the train station. In our booking via Asiarooms, we highlighted that we will arrive around 7pm, so the booking was still in force when we arrive.

The rooms are acceptable and we stayed in a standard twin room. Room condition was comparable to New Era Hotel (we stayed on 25th floor / Eco floor in a Business Room in New Era). Both look sedated but fully functioning.

Requested for a non-smoking floor, we smell smoke in the corridor though but not in the room, and being in China it was acceptable in the scheme of things. Room heating was okay, not too hot or stuffy in winter.

Paid deposit (RMB600) with credit card, cancelled at check out time, use the same credit card to pay for room. Worked like clock work.

Taxi fare from the airport was around RMB90, including RMB10 toll fare, and some form of city centre fee.

I will stay here again if I take the train, Kunming train station is 10 mins walking distance and the pricing of around RMB320 without breakfast.

Room tip: Building B is the cheaper option than Building A.

We stayed at its Building B and were quite disappointed. Although it is labeled as 4 star, Days Inn or Quality Inn is in better shape.

In addition to old furnishings noted by other reviewers, our standard room is very small and bath room tiny. The worst part is their dirty towels, which should have been discarded a year ago. So bring your own towels.

We picked this place due to it is only 5 minutes walking to training station. And it's the final stop of airport shuttle (cost 20 Yuan).

It also has a strange cancellation policy. We booked online with default check in time at noon. Their system auto cancelled our reservation when we show up at 12:30 PM, which is past noon time!! So you should change your checkin time (as late as 6 pm without charge).

TIP: Building B does have a wonderful massage service at ground floor, 98 Yuan per hour. Facilities are not facy but staff did a nice job. We really enjoyed their massage. Avoid Building A massage. Same staff but charge 156 Yuan per hour.

This hotel is a China-brand and the service is not up to international standard.
Basically there are 2 room options at this hotel : Block A and Block B. The main building rooms
are newer (A), with better carpet, and furnishing (but no flat screen TV). The cheaper rooms at the adjoining 'villa' (B) has dated furnishing. But both have same facilities, with a price difference of 100 rmb. However the more expensive rooms may not have WIFI while the cheaper rooms all have WIFI. (Read below to see how to get the hotel to put on WIFI for your room).

The only reason why you should stay at this hotel:
Airport bus stopped/embarked directly at this hotel. It is also 5-10 mins walk to the train station which is ideal if you plan to hop on/off trains to get to various destinations via trains, since the long distance bus stations are located quite far from Kunming nowadays.

Cons:
Service staff is not up to standard and it can be quite pricey. I found out that there was a winter promotion on Jinjiang website but was having problems booking online. We were wanting to stay for convenience on our way out of KM. Probably it couldn't accept foreign credit cards. So I went down to the front desk to see if they could offer me the same room rate. I was appalled when she said that there were no such rates, and she herself has never accessed the Jinjiang website. I was disappointed. We checked out without reserving another room. We asked about luggage deposit. The front desk told us it is not free. Then the bell-boy passed by, and we asked, and he said "it's free for a week for hotel guests".

All said, we have only met ONE nice and hospitable staff at the front desk - Ms Crystal Shen. It was a delight each time she's on duty. Very helpful and kind. We changed from the cheaper room to the more expensive room but was shocked to find the more expensive room without WIFI ! We told Ms Shen, and she immediately called up the floor attendant to bring us a WIFI router for our room!

TIPS : If you go directly to the front desk, they are not going to give you any good rates. It's best to book through a travel agent or CTRIP.com. (elong.net, also worked). Their breakfast buffet is 60rmb/person and nothing to rave about. About 10 mins down the street on YongPing road is a very nice McDonald's.
Other cheaper options to stay near the train station incl 7daysinn (about 10mins behind JinJiang) and the KingsWorld International (next to JinJiang).

Note : Due to the on-going work on the KM subway, it may be difficult to get a taxi directly at the hotel, but walking about 5 minutes to the junction, you'll be able to catch by-passing taxis.

Room tip: The cheaper rooms are good enough since all the rooms offer the same type of hard beds.

I read up on this hotel after having booked our room, and hence was a bit ambivalent on what we might get. The drive from the new Kunming airport was smooth. The hotel is well located, close to the railway station and surrounded by shops. Our arrival was a little inauspicious. A raucous group was checking out, and even the cavernous lobby couldn't quite take away the strong smell of liquor on the breaths of many. We had paid in advance for our room, but the reception clerk seemed to suggest this was not the case and that we needed to pay. Fortunately I had the proof of payment with me and after a couple of shrugs, he admitted to the possibility of having been wrong. Perhaps to make up, he gave us breakfast coupons; a pleasant surprise because this was not included in our package. The Deluxe room was reasonably comfortable if a little cramped. But we were there for the night and it was adequate. Dinner from room service was served quite quickly and was good. The mattress was hard, but not impossibly so. Next morning, we went up to the revolving restaurant (which incidentally doesn't revolve or didn't the day we were there) for breakfast. The spread was adequate, but the place was decidedly crowded. The wait at the egg station for instance stretched several minutes. Check-out was smooth, incredibly so, and the concierge was quick to arrange a taxi for us. Overall, this was a pleasant stay, although the hotel wasn't luxurious by any stretch of imagination. The fourth star it claims is an exaggeration.

Room tip: There are two towers in the hotel, Tower A has the better rooms. Opt for these if possible, but be warned they cost more.

This being a step up in our normal accommodation,it was quite luxurious for us.
We booked it online ( I think with agoda), we paid £31 a night, but I think the prices at reception were starting at about £60.
Anyway, it is 10 minutes walk to the station and also the staff have a travel centre in the hotel. They sold us onward tickets from Kunming to Jinghong in Xishuangbanna, for the same price as we would have to had paid at the station- around 230RMB. A taxi for the 20 minute trip at 7a.m (no traffic, going South out of town) turned out to be 35RMB, although I believe with heavier traffic it would be 50RMB.
Anyway, the hotel was plush and spacious, with a revolving restaurant on the 23rd floor, with an all you can eat buffet for (I think) around 150RMB, It may have been 170RMB, but it was definately about that price.
