Mixed feelings: weird service, rest ok

1 night stop over on our way to Mandalay. Would probably try sth else next time.
Like: Big room, good bed, good location in walking distance to Green Lake, decent breakfast, at least some of the staff spoke some English
Unlike: arrived tired at 1.15 at night, had to wait 15 min for check-in due to 'system audit'; no water in the swimming pool, which nobody cared to mention at the reception even though I had asked them where the pool is - I ended up standing next to it in my swimming trunks with a pretty stupid face. No big issues, but stuff like that shouldn't happen in a 'five star' hotel (assigned by themselves?)

Hardly a luxury hotel

Check in was painfully slow with long queues and staff standing around watching, service style was abrupt and not welcoming in any way. Room on level 12 was very basic and quite shabby. Bed was ok, view was awful and hotel facilities very average.

Consistently average

I am a regular guest here, 2 or 3 times per year since many years. It is a 4 star hotel with very average facilities and very average staff. It has a good location, near a nice inner city lake area. Good for a morning run or an evening walk. About 2 km circumference, a bit crowded, but lively. The altitude (1800m) is not encouraging for strenuous exercise - maybe that's the reason why the gym is so unattractive and unused.
The lobby area is now being renovated. Frankly speaking, the rooms would need that too. The bathrooms are certainly in need of a modernization. The breakfast buffet is not the best in the world, not even in China. But also far away from the worst...
But then, despite all the mumbling, it is a nice place to come to regularly, and I am sure that tourists in this part of China have to put up with much worse. As we know, all things are relative... This is a relatively good hotel.

4 star....

Lobby was being renovated when there so first impression was not great ( but understandable) as everything was temporary set up. Rooms were ok...nothing great but not great. Honestly, nothing memorable. Moved to different hotel after two days...same price range but more centrally located in the city,

Wait Until Renovations Are Finished

We stayed at this hotel in October with two kids. The rooms are OK, we had to join up two rooms to accomodate 2 Adults and 2 Children. The glue and paint smells from the renovations are terrible and I would advise for this reason and others that you stay up the road at the Green Lake Hotel which seems much nicer. The pool area looks like a rubbish tip, complete with green slimy pool. You get very little for the "Crystal Club" - do not believe the web site - there are no complimentary cocktails, the "Crystal Club' lounge itself is nothing to speak of - it is really just an included breakfast, limit your expectations to that. I notice that the web site has now deleted the reference to 2 items of free laundry per room per day which the hotel refused to honour and we ended up in an argument upon checkout which left our stay here with a sour experience - the so called customer service lady at reception checkout can turn very nasty. Perhaps give them a couple of years to sort things out as international standards of management are not evident.
