Chenggong International Hotel
Ranked #47 of 2,688 Hotels in Xi'an

I'll start off by saying the rooms are good for the price, they were basic, clean and comfortable for €22. Breakfast was average for a small extra charge. Food in the hotel was terrible and not many good restaurants in the vicinity. Also Xi'an itself was under a lot of construction, the bell and drum tower were covered in scaffolding, not great for the pictures.

The location wasn't very central but we only came to see terracotta warriors so was fine for what we need. We booked the tour for terracotta warriors through Joyce in the business center who was very helpful and the only member of staff worth mentioning. The rest of the staff were teenagers, who were very unhelpful.

An example of this being our laundry being forgot about. We handed the laundry in with the promise of it being back at 8pm the following day as we had onward travel arrangements already made. At 8pm the following day no sign of the laundry. After several conversations with different members of staff an arrangement was finally made to return our laundry unwashed. The laundry finally arrived at 12 midnight, we had to be up at 6am. No real apology made and eventually a refund was received upon check out the following morning.

In short fine to stay but don't expect much from the staff.

Room Tip: Fine for a short stay just to see terracotta warriors just don't expect the staff to help you wi...

We were initially taken aback by its location and facade; its is located among a roll of old shop houses. After checking in and settling in then we discovered it is a gem. It is an absolutely no frill but very clean hotel. Considering that there is so much to see in Xian and you spend little time in your room, this is perfect. The reception staff is a crew of new generation and very helpful young Chinese. As commented by by previous hotel guests, the staff was great in guiding us to everywhere on public transport. It was near impossible to try to catch a cab in Xian so we used the bus with the staff's help. There is a bus stop and a police post (2 policemen sitting inside a wooden hut) right outside the hotel. Therefore it is very convenient and safe. It is also a few minutes walk to the South Gate of the City Wall, an attraction in Xian. Beware of the Szechuan restaurant near the hotel; the restaurant is a nice looking place with rolls of chinese lanterns in the next block on the right side if you are leaving the hotel. They got us to order a fresh fish which they scooped out of their tank and then served us a frozen fish. The waitress quickly retrieved the fish when we showed her the frozen part of the fish sitting on our plate of supposedly fresh fish. The hotel is away from the vicinity of the Bell/Drum Towers and Muslim Street. It is a bus ride away of about 7 stops. There is nothing much there; both the towers are under renovation so can't see much and the Muslim Street has little to offer. The street parallel to the Muslim Street is lined with vendors selling fakes and a tourist rip-off.

At around $22 AUD a night we weren't expecting too much, but what we got was pretty great. Free internet; clean well maintained rooms and fairly polite staff. If you need English, the staff are all pretty good and are able to book taxis to the airport for 150 kuai.
The beds are hard but that is what is expected across the board in any hotel in China.
Really close to the city wall, only a 2 minute walk to your left as you are leaving the hotel.
There is a steamed bun shop across the road that does meat or bean buns for half a kuai, which are pretty alright.

Great location and great value for money. Rooms a bit small but clean and comfortable. Free wifi. Very helpful and approachable reception staff! Overall had a great stay here. Would definitely stay here if I return to Xian. A good place for a meal is two doors to the right.

This is an Ibis hotel. Same same world wide. Clean and comfortable without much character. That is fine as the location is good and we just needed somewhere clean to sleep. There is an EXCELLENT resturant accross the road and the Ibis itself is only a 20min walk to the city wall and other attractions. We booked our Terracotta Warrior tour through the Ibis and it turned out to be a great tour and very good value.

We stayed in Xi'an and found this hotel to be in a safe and suitable area. For the price, we were pleased. Breakfast was limited but fine. We did not feel unsafe. We did not experience any of the typical "hotel woes." The staff was courteous and helpful. The proximity to scenic sights and points of interest was also fine. Our tour guide recommended this hotel and we were not disappointed.
