I stayed here last may with my family of 5. We got a car service from the airport to the hotel. Didn't have any problem find the place. Once we got there, it was raining. The bell staff came over right away and unloaded our luggages and were holding umbrella for us, so we didn't get rained on. We checked in with no problems and stayed in 2 rooms adjacent to each other. The rooms were a little on the small side, but were clean. We were told that we can use the swimming pool in the Sofitel hotel next door, but we didn't try it out. The location was ok. We asked for taxi for the places that we wanted to visit. The only thing is once you are outside, it was difficult to get a taxi on the way back especially during rush hour. We were at drum tower one night, couldn't catch a taxi for almost an hour of trying. We walked back to the hotel, wasn't terrible, but we were quite tired after we had already walked a bit that day.

Our taxi driver from the station didn't know the hotel - nor did some of the other drivers she asked. Luckily I had printed some maps of the location and she found it.

Hotel was in a complex of a number of hotels - quiet location.

Arrived early (after the overnight train from Beijing) and were able to check in early.
Room and bathroom were good. Slightly strangely There was a glass wall between the shower and the bedroom. There was a blind which was adjustable from the bedroom. This might put some people off but not sure if it was the same in all rooms.

No restaurant in the hotel but there are others on the complex. We ate one meal in the Sofitel which was nice. Good cocktails available in the bar. We used the pool in the Sofitel ( guests of the mercury can use all Sofitel facilities) which was lovely. We were the only people in there at the time (early afternoon).

It was my birthday when we were there and they brought up a (complimentary) cake.

We walked everywhere from the hotel and it was about 20/30 mins to the main sights of Xi'an - bear in mind the heat!!

There were facilities to leave bags after checking out which we did and the hotel called us a taxi to take us to the station when we left.

Small but clean rooms. Main problem is trying to find it in the Renmin square on arrival. Very poorly signposted. Poor English spoken by the security guard so they were not useful. The people at the desk had better understanding of basic English. Location ok for us to get around the city in but that is because I can read "Chinese" otherwise may be more difficult. With understanding the lingo, I was able to take the city buses to the tourist sites and get to the train station to take the tourist bus to the Terracotta Army. If Chinese is not something you understand then suggest that you go with a tour otherwise it would be easy to get lost or be overcharged!
You must go to "Muslim" street for the variety of food, street stalls and shopping. Great fun.
Most of the other tourist sites are very central in the city apart from the Terracotta Army and " Hwa tsing tsi"

Room Tip: Go with a tour if you don't understand chinese

Our room was one of the most comfortable in our month long visit to China. The bed and duvet were perfect. The room was immaculately clean. The front desk staff was very friendly and accommodating. Breakfast buffet I the hotel was delicious with a wide selection and in the evening a very short walk to the another hotel on the grounds provided a very delicious buffet for dinner, albeit a bit pricey. A down side is the hotel IS walkable to shopping but it is a bit of a trek.

On the positive side:
1. Nice rooms - spacious, clean, well-laid out, reasonably priced, quiet, great blackout drapes
2. Central location
3. Friendly staff

On the negative side:
There is no concierge - they simply rely on their front desk and bellman for any information / booking requests - and their English / skills on this front are somewhat limited. Ask the concierge at the Sofitel (sister hotel next door) if you need information / need a booking.

On the in-between:
The spa offers a good selection of services but the pricing is all over the place. A good Chinese massage is about $50 for 45 minutes, while and oil massage is nearly 4 times that price for 90 minutes. Every time I was there they were relentless on up-selling the oil massage. The foot massage is great (ask for Bob). The traditional pedicure is OK, but they really need to hire someone who specializes in this, rather than cross-training the staff as they seem to have done. "Scrapping" is something only a masochist would do twice.

Room Tip: Turn your heat down to the lowest setting in winter - even at 17C it was like an oven.

Was here for 4 nights. Location was not within short walking distance of shopping (grocery, dept stores),dining/eating or browsing. Renmin Square is a "Square" made of up 4 hotels, a theatre, and multipurpose building, grounds are well-groomed, see only tourists going to and from hotels. Would not return because we like to walk out of hotels and be in middle of local action, expected bustling city square. Room was very clean and reasonably priced. No real view from room. Oddly, there is a glass wall between shower and sleeping area, venetian blinds used for privacy (still could see through sides). Not much counter space in bathroom.
