We didn't get long on the wall during the day. Bit disappointed that the one building open is set up as tourist shopping and nothing inside shows the history. By night the buildings are lit up and it looks good.

If you have ttime to cycle the wall that is ideal.

At night, it is such an evocative sight. The bell and drum towers in particular give you a real sense of where you are, bang in the cent of this vast and populous nation, in its ancient capital.

Traffic jams are pretty standard. Lorries breaking down regularly block roads as there seem to be few options to divert. Most drivers must be close to insanity!

A great way to see the city is to walk or ride a bike along the top of the wall. Bicycles are available for hire. There's shrines and old battlements along the wall with information boards. Even the rubbish bins look cool and its a great way to spend a few hours. I recommend walking to the exit that leads to the forest of stellae museum.

this is a beautiful well preserved wall enclosing the old city. Is it worth biking the 14 kms? yes, if you feel like exercising and the weather is nice. the view from the wall is not that great. so if you are in a hurry, just go to one of the gates (the south gate is the most convenient as it is close to the big pagoda and the Shaanxi museum), go up, look at it and proceed to the next activity

This was the most exiting experience in Xian. (Terracotta army was educational).
You can walk or ride a bicycle along this almost 13.6 km long wall.
Contrasting with the wall, stay modern buildings.
Sunset or sunrise time are the best for taking pictures.
