The wall is incredible particularly at dusk. The lanterns around the wall really set it off beautifully. The only down side was the pollution. Almost choking.

Would have liked more time here, would have cycled round, but it had snowed when we were there. Enjoyable walk and fascinating site.

We walked half way round the wall and saw a lot of the City from this great perspective. The wall is huge, but a little spoiled by the cheap concrete repairs where some of the ancient bricks have worn - Im sure they could have done more appropriate repairs to retain the authentic look of the wall. It is possible to hire bikes (including tandems) to cycle round or, if you have some mobility difficulties or are a bit lazy, you can run round on a little open sided bus - but you dont get to see much from there. The benefit of a leisurely walk around is that you see some of the real Xi'an whilst looking down into the streets, open spaces and gardens of ordinary citizens. There is some real poverty behind the scenes. Chinese also like to fly kites from the top of tower blocks - we saw loads whilst there, which were nice to watch. There are some drum and dance shows near the gates about 5pm for the benefit of the tourists, which are worth seeing - so time your walk to allow for this. It's hot up there though, take a hat and sun screen.

We went round in like a golf truck, I think there were 4 in each one, saw lots of interesting buildings and they stopped every so often so we could get out and look round, yes really enjoyed it.

My eight year old daughter and I had a blast! It was a hot, hot day so check the temperature before you go to know how much water to take! We hired a tandem and laughed all the way around the wall. It was so much fun, from the initial hiring of the bike, to returning the bike after we were exhausted at the end! The bike had seen better days, but as you are cycling around a historic wall, it didn't really matter. We made many stops on the way to take photos and look at buildings. Overall, it is a great activity to do and we will be doing it again.
