Xi/an is awash with restaurants - many of them very good. The food of Shaanxi province provides plenty of variety and spicy surprises so you won't get bored. But SOMETIMES, you just have to eat a curry! And when the mood strikes, Dehli Darbar is the place to go! You can almost guarantee that a handful of Westerners will be dining here when you arrive - it's a big favourite amongst the city's ex-pat population. The menu is typically wide-ranging and you'll find a choice of beers and red (but not white, usually) wine. The decor is colourful and slightly mad with fabric hanging lamps in jewel tones, quirky Indian framed prints, sparkling fairy lights and little dining alcoves trimmed with spangles and beads. The waitresses wear pretty matching tunics and try their best - although service can be a bit random. The owner seems to work 24/7 and you can acquire a loyalty card for a 10% discount on your meal. We never produce our card, but he knows us and automatically reduces our bill without being asked. As we are from London and have high expectations of a curry house, we can assure you that the standards here are high. We have our favourites - usually one of the prawn dishes with saffron rice and some vegetable dishes on the side. Delhi Darbar is very busy on weekend evenings and it's good to arrive earlyish - say 6:30 or 7:00. You can get takeaway and they also deliver. Located on an attractive bar street adjacent to the Wild Goose Pagoda, you might want to stroll along and stop for a drink at one of the many watering holes after your meal.
