Xi/an is awash with restaurants - many of them very good. The food of Shaanxi province provides plenty of variety and spicy surprises so you won't get bored. But SOMETIMES, you just have to eat a curry! And when the mood strikes, Dehli Darbar is the place to go! You can almost guarantee that a handful of Westerners will be dining here when you arrive - it's a big favourite amongst the city's ex-pat population. The menu is typically wide-ranging and you'll find a choice of beers and red (but not white, usually) wine. The decor is colourful and slightly mad with fabric hanging lamps in jewel tones, quirky Indian framed prints, sparkling fairy lights and little dining alcoves trimmed with spangles and beads. The waitresses wear pretty matching tunics and try their best - although service can be a bit random. The owner seems to work 24/7 and you can acquire a loyalty card for a 10% discount on your meal. We never produce our card, but he knows us and automatically reduces our bill without being asked. As we are from London and have high expectations of a curry house, we can assure you that the standards here are high. We have our favourites - usually one of the prawn dishes with saffron rice and some vegetable dishes on the side. Delhi Darbar is very busy on weekend evenings and it's good to arrive earlyish - say 6:30 or 7:00. You can get takeaway and they also deliver. Located on an attractive bar street adjacent to the Wild Goose Pagoda, you might want to stroll along and stop for a drink at one of the many watering holes after your meal.

We live in Xi'an so it's nice to have an Indian restaurant to satisfy your taste buds. The location is good, near the Big Goose pagoda. The menu is extensive but we usually order the dishes we're familiar with because the English translations seem to read the same between one curry to the next. The food is okay for Xian standards but you will find better Indian food in other cities. Service is so so. The value is inexpensive but don't expect huge servings on the curry either. It's best to book a table on the weekends.

It is a great place to get indian food. If you an Indian vegetarian like I am, this definitely helps. The food is good, the service is fine. What you really need to remember though is that you have to pay cash. Bring your RMB and enjoy the place!

I go to this restaurant on a regular basis, mainly because there are two indian places in the city and this is the lesser of two evils. The curries here are VERY similar to each other, they don't seem to use much in the way of rich creams or yoghurts (these are expensive to come by here). The service is awful unless you get the boss, who's a good guy, always get a nice 10% discount presumably for being regular.
The tandoori sizzler dishes are usually far too dry and the nan bread (a big test of a curryhouse's prowess) is bland. Recommended dishes would be the potato and cheese tandoori dish, the mutton madras and the dall makhani.
Still, it's the best indian in Xi'an!
