“A Knowledgeable Tour Guide A Must”
Reviewed March 14, 2013

If you do not have a knowledgeable tour guide leading through this museum, skip it. After a few minutes of looking at the stone steles and taking a few photos, you will be bored. We had a tour guide who was very informed about the significance of the stone steles and explained the background info to us in a very interesting story-like form, and made our visit a good one. The new Buddha exhibit is also very good and worthwhile seeing.

“Fascinating look on old writing ways”
Reviewed February 28, 2013

Many steles are on display here and there are many ways they can be informative for you. Do not miss the Nestorian stele if you are into catholic stuff, you will probably never see something that old with a cross on it in China!

“A museum full of stone tablet”
Reviewed February 27, 2013

It's a place about the history and Chinese calligraphy. For Asian visitors, especially Japanese visitors, much easier to understand and appreciate.

“Fascinating but too much to take in”
Reviewed February 21, 2013

This is a large collection of stones carved with inscriptions, some with depictions of important Chinese historical figures and tomb inscriptions. Most of the stones have English translations but there are a lot of them, a virtual Forest as the name implies and I think this is more for scholars of Chinese history rather than the average tourist

“Took a caligraphy lesson from a master”
Reviewed October 29, 2012

Had tea and a wonderful private caligraphy lesson then a slow walk through the museum. This was one of our favorite activities, and the museum is encouraging it as well.
