We stayed here for two nights as part of a group. Amazing reception area with gigantic sculptures.

We were particularly impressed with the hotel food where we had an excellent good value meal in the Chinese restaurant. We also had an excellent Tang Dynasty Dumpling Dinner and Show.

The room and breakfast were fine although I did not like the pillows which seemed to be filled with styrofoam. Free wi-fi in the lobby but not available in the rooms. Very competitive rates for changing money.

Did not particularly like the location as very heavy traffic outside.

We stayed two nights as part of a tour. A good hotel with an impressive terracota army sculpture at it's centre courtyard. The breakfast was good with lots of variety overlooking the main lobby and the bar area was fairly snug and had a pool table. Our first room smelled of cigarettes despite it being a non smoking room so we asked to move. This was done efficiently without any fuss.

After 4 days in Shanghai we stayed 3 days in this historical town at this good hotel with an interesting lobby with huge sculpture of the Emperor and his terra-cotta army. The room was comfortable, simple and clean with great breakfast. The tour guide was very ,very good and the trip to the Great Wall, Terracotta Army, Big Goose Pagoda ... was spectacular. The hotel was quite comfortable and clean, a lovely lobby which gave a feeling of granduer. The room was Ok nothing really special, just a Hotel room. The buffet breakfast was nice with a fair amount of variety, it was enough to get you started for the day. The large sculptures in the courtyard were amazing. It was raining whilst we were there but there was not a great deal in the area, certainly nothing of interest that we could see. We were on a coach tour and we saw the shopping district whilst we were driving and it was a fair way from the hotel.

The Grand New World hotel is a very average hotel. It was very busy with several weddings. There is also a night club connected to the hotel that was very popular at night. We stayed two nights with a group tour and isn't wasn't bad. The room was clean and comfortable with a view of the large sculpture and a temple. The room door would not close properly, but we persevered. There is not much in the neighborhood to see. The morning breakfast was very good and included a great variety of offers. We got some good deals at the gift shop because the clerk was willing to bargain. I would recommend this hotel if you had transportation. It was quite and appeared to be safe.

During our journey through China,as a couple,we visited Xi'an and stayed in this hotel. The lobby is very, very impressive with the huge wall-to-wall sculpture(photo 1) of the Emperor and his subjects in the courtyard , we got the feeling this created high expectations regarding to the rooms, and because they were not of the same "grandeur" we felt a little bit disappointed. The room(photo 2 & 3) & bathroom(photo 4) was not really big sized, however not to little for us,sufficiently cleaned, cable-connected internet was available inside the room. The double bed was comfortable, compared with other hotels (in China) where we stayed. The sheets were clean. The bathroom, although slightly outdated, had all the amenities we needed, the towels looked nice and clean. We appreciated the breakfastbuffet(photo 5) :limited yet sufficient choice, coffee was nice and a good selection of fresh juices. The hotel is not located near to the main attractions but since we, like most tourists had a guide and driver, this was no problem. The staff was kind and helpful to us.

A little disappointing after seeing the promo photos..not so grand...booked by tour operator for our 2 night stay. We were there in school holidays and the breakfast area was over run with kids..August is not the time to visit China ...too hot as well. Our room was a long way from the lifts and the room was very dated. Went for a massage which was not that good, dingy area near the bar/coffee shop and then the lady demanded a tip before i went to pay, even blocking the door until the correct amount was paid ?? cannot remember what was paid.
However the China Cultral Show and dumpling dinner was extremely good. I did not want to see it but my wife did and I am so so glad I did. Many tourists from other hotels also came. We only had to go to the lift to go home in airconditioned comfort. Bye the way the air conditioning in the room is only off or on so i turned it off at 1am (was too cold) and I was ok till morning.
Went to use the pool but they said govt rules meant i had to buy a bathing cap (from them 20 y) but i am 90 % bald !!!! .. but as i left my wallet in the room i walked out annoyed !!
Now i must say i did not look at any other accommodation ...so you need to compare maybe all hotels are like this in this city, probably would not stay again.

Room Tip: See a room first or pick a higher rated hotel.
