We stayed 2 nights at Grand New World Hotel. It´s a big hotel, with 2 restaurants (one chinese, one international). Rooms are not really big, but still of good size. Comfortable bed, amenities, cable TV (old TV, though). Room, sheets and towels very clean. Slippers in the bedroom. Very good breakfast, although coffee was not good. Staff speak very poor English, but everybody is helpful.

I stayed here as part of a package tour. There is nothing really bad about the hotel, it just pales against the hotel I stayed in Beijing, both were rated as 4 stars. The positives of the hotel are the lobby, very nice. The breakfast was also pretty good. Nice selection of both Chinese and European/American food. Also a positive, they exchange money with no fees at a pretty favorable rate.

On the downside, the rooms are a little tired and could use some renovation. They still had a tube TV. The gym is pretty bad. Very dated machines and a little claustrophobic. On the service side, the concierge had a hard time with English and could not provide any suggestions of places to eat-- a pretty basic request I think.

I saw some newer hotels outside the city wall. I don't know what the price differential is between this hotel and those hotels but it might be worth investigating before booking at this hotel.

Room Tip: If you get a room facing the road, make sure you get a higher floor. The road is quite busy and nois...

Loved the breakfast buffet, plenty of everything, really good mix of Chinese and Western food! The rooms are also very nice, friendly staff and the location in Xian is good. I was not disturbed by any noice at all, quite the contrary. Would definitely stay here again!

We stayed here for 2 nights as part of a private tour of China.
From the lobby you get a very good impression of this hotel - it is home to the Tang Dynasty Show and caters for conferences and tour groups. However, the rooms are another story. There is no double glazing to keep out the noise from the busy road outside and there was condensation on the inside of the windows. Although the hotel is just inside the old city walls it is also near to the busy gateway and it would seem that the city never sleeps.
We had to pay for internet connection in the room. There is WIFI in the lobby but nowhere to sit as the available space is taken up by the Show's booking tables.
At breakfast it was difficult to find a table and people had to queue. Breakfast was good and we ate dinner here one evening but although the food was excellent, the sevice was not. My husband was served as an after thought a good 5 minutes after I had finished my main course.

Our two night stay at this hotel followed on from excellent hotel stays in Beijing and Shanghai, and as The Grand New World offered a cheaper rate, our expectations were not overly high.
The hotel is in need of some general refurbishment. Some of the furnishings were dated and well worn and although on check in we were allocated a room upgrade, we were disappointed at the general standard. We looked out over a pretty grim roof top, the lighting was dim, the fitments grubby and the room smelt heavily of smoke. The bed was clean and reasonably comfortable however. There was a kitchenette area in one corner of the room, a dining table, four chairs and a book shelf, all reminiscent of an 1980 motel type room. Similarly, the bathroom was a little outdated but clean. It seemed to be a popular hotel for tour groups
Another disappointment was the actual location of the hotel. Although inside the city walls, it is situated in a pretty run down area of the city. We actually ventured out to explore the locality but the busy main road was a nightmare to cross and the area was not particularly enticing so we gave up.
This coloured our view of Xi'an. We found later that there are some much pleasanter areas of the city.
The hotel did offer free wi-fi in the lobby area and the Tang Dynasty Show was held here.
One of the concierges, David, was also extremely helpful. He spoke reasonably good English and advised us on some aspects of our trip.

Our aim in visiting Xi'an, like the majority of people, was to see the Terracotta Warriors which we did. We travelled independently ( Bus 306) which leaves from outside Xi'an railway station at 5 minute intervals and found the journey very easy. The coach was comfortable, everyone had a seat and it was just £1.40 return! Would recommend taking the coach journey (approx 1 hour) and certainly recommend the Terracotta Warriors. They were amazing! Sadly, I would not be as quick to recommend the Grand New World.
