One of the oldest and nicest places to see, its not much, but does have the history and is very famous for Buddhism. Its a not so far to the top and is worth a climb. Not so expensive.

entering the compound of the Big Wild Goose Pagoda was a last minute decision for us. Once through the gate we were approached by one of the volunteer guides. We spent a fabulous hour or so wandering around this very peaceful area learning all sorts of things. Given it was our wedding anniversary we even offered up a prayer (under instruction) for a long happy/harmonious marriage. I thought the guide was really informative and we enjoyed her enthusiasm - the only bit we didn't really like is the hard sell at the end when you make it into the art gallery and shop.

We went to this place at night, all the way passing by Japanese-like trees, lantern, and architecture, and ended up by looking a very beautiful night view of the pagoda. There were lots of old people doing exercise there, but it's still a really nice place to visit and take some shots. You could stroll to the northern square to visit the fountain dance.

When you approach the Big Pagoda, you will first meet a big plaza crowded with Chinese people dancing. That's actually very common through all China and - sorry to say it - funny. You will be able to see tons of people happily dancing together a typical music. On the other side of the Pagoda you can watch a water show around late afternoon. Nice, but nothing special.

Visiting the Goose Pagoda is a really nice activity for the late afternoon and evening. You can walk the nice parks around it and watch the quite impressive fountain show. I also really liked several painting and statues inside some rooms of the pagode. If you are in Xi An you definetely shold visit it.
