This is the very reason I went to xian, to see it for myself what is all the hoo-ha is about. It is one of those things you gotta take off your bucket list. It was worth it for me because
-I had a private guide who gave me good explanations of everything there
-we arrived early to beat the crowd
-I enjoyed history

Do it!

It is a wonder to see this the size and detail of the display and the lengths taken to discover and restore.
Make sure you circle back to pit one for a second last view before you leave this place as there is so much to absorb.
Enjoy. Happy travels.

This is a great museum and very well put together. I would suggest a guide for a good detailed explanation of the site. It was about an hour and a half drive from the city center.

This place is super cool. Unfortunately, if you go when it is crowded, you'll be elbowing people for the best picture shot locations. There are 3 separate buildings, which pretty much show the same thing. The first main building has the archeology depicted. It is definitely a must see!

Fantastic experience, my best in China: better than the Great Wall! This amazing discovery was made in 1974 and so it has been lying there for about 2200 years or so covered in dirt. The faces of the warriors is lifelike and haunting. Originally the warriors were brightly coloured but time has faded them yet they are being restored in this modern museum exhibit.

One word of caution: do not let the hotel "travel agency" book this trip for you, they will rip you off! Simply organize a taxi or driver service to take you there where you simply buy a ticket for 150 rmb. There is plenty of food, lots of souvenir vendors and it is really a full day trip but if you are in a hurry...it can be seen in about an hour and a half.

It is very hot in the summer so dress for the heat. Part of the exhibit is air conditioned so I suggest you see save that one for when you need a break from the baking hot heat. There are 3 main exhibits. Bring your camera and take your time. I truly love this place and it is the best, cleanest exhibit in China that I have found.
