Grand Metropark Hotel Xi'an
Ranked #31 of 2,658 Hotels in Xi'an

We stayed two nights at this hotel in Xi'an and were very happy with the experience. The hotel and room were very clean and had all the facilities expected by a traveller from the US. The location is great right next to the East Gate of the City Wall. We walked to the city wall South Gate and then we walked back through the city, visiting the Drum and Bell Towers. The tour to Terracotta Warriors picked us up from the hotel.
The staff of the hotel are very friendly. On a special note, they arranged for our taxi to the airport in the morning. 10 minutes into our drive they called the taxi driver to let him know that we forgot all our power adapters in the room. We turned around and picked up our adapters. This is what I call GREAT customer service !

The hotel is situated between the old city wall and the drum and bell towers. It is located a block and a half away from the East entry gate of the Old City wall and a few blocks from the towers.

We stayed on the Club level and found most of the staffs (with the exception of one on the Club level and made you feel like she is doing you a favor when you ask for a drink) generally helpful and willing and they all speak decent English. The Club level breakfast was rather limited in selection, but it was enough to keep my kids happy.

The real downside of this hotel is the dated facilities. For those that have stayed in a Embassy Suites in the U.S. The general fit and finish of the rooms are like that...basic, functional, and clean but nothing special. It was probably quite nice when it was opened 10 years ago, but things move quick in China and this hotel hasn't kept up in its appearance.

I would recommend this hotel to those that want to be close to some sites, but are willing to give up a bit on the decors.

We booked the Club level which I am certain made a difference. The staff in the Club room were wonderful. They were helpful, welcoming, and made our stay more pleasant. The extras of the Club room were worth the extra price and a very good buffet breakfast was included with the room cost. Our stay was well worth the price, although it was a bit on the higher side. Good place. There is a bar and pizza place in the hotel. They describe the pizza as 12 inch but is closer to 18. One serves two people easily and seemed reasonably priced. They also have a full size snooker table--really big--and live music almost every night that was good.

Hyatt like Hyatt. Excellent service. Due to closing down the aiport the hotel staff has help us to arrange the train to Beijing. Excellent breakfast. Good, clean but little small standard rooms.

As noted by many reviews previously, the Hyatt Xi’an is not in the best of shape. It definitely does have a very worn out look both inside and out. The rooms and bathrooms have worn out (but not necessarily dirty/smelly) carpets and furniture. The bed is very hard, as is custom in many Chinese hotels.

That said, in other facets it is a decent hotel. The reception and door-staff are extremely friendly and the amenities in the room and the hotel are of 5 star standard.

The location isn’t too bad – about a 15 minute walk to the Bell tower – just try to avoid the main road (East Street) on weekends as it gets incredibly packed.

All up, for the 500 RMB I paid it represents good value. If and when the place gets a facelift I think it’d be a great place to stay.

Physically, the hotel was the typical solid upscale Hyatt. However, the service was extremely good -- much better than would be typical in the US.

The restaurant was very good, with an extremely extensive buffet of very good food both for breakfast and dinner.

We got a very good rate. I'm not sure if that was timing or location (it was January in a summer tourist location, but this is really a business hotel).

This is my 5th trip to Xian in a year and have always used the Hyatt. We are made very welcome, we have huge rooms in the Regency club. We get free food & drinks in the Regency club lounge, there is live music 6 nights a week. During our last trip it was the only place in Xian that showed the England football match (That we could find, but we looked in every bar in Defu). There is a free snooker table and darts board in the bar and ask Sonia to make a Mojito if she is working they are the worlds best.
