Whilst certainly not bad, the hotel is dated but the location in the center of town does go some way to compensating for this. It is situated next to a major intersection wh9ch is crossed by accessing a tunnel under the road which is very well thought out.

Breakfast was part of the accommodation deal ad they were fine. We had one evening meal in the restaurant and this was made difficult by the staff having no English and me no Mandarin.

A great base to explore from, Terracotta Warriors etc

After driving up from Bangkok via Cambodia and Laos with Dragoman Overland my wife and i were ready to be spoiled. The Bell Tower Hotel in Xian did this superbly. We had enough cold rice porridge , dumplings and warm watery soy milk to last a lifetime so the mega western style breakfast at the Bell Tower was amazing. Staff were polite and helpful. Our front room had a small balcony overlooking the never ending people parade on the streets below us. The hotel is surrounded with interesting places within walking distance. After nearly 2 months " on the road " this was a magic haven!

Room Tip: Front room overlooking the Bell Tower.

Bell Tower Hotel is right in the middle of the city, fantastic location, quick walk to the shopping centres, city walls and caligraphy market. We walked into a impressive foyer, and we were greeted by sweet little gold fishes frolicking in a huge porcelain bowl. There were very fine 'antiques' in all the public areas but once you step into the small lifts, the rooms tell a completely different story. They were definitely not cleaned, dust bunnies and hair in every corner, chipped furniture, mouldy bathrooms, musty corridors, no tv reception,....and there was no room safe. When we asked for one, the girl just carried one out from an unoccupied room! Size of the rooms was the smallest of all the 6 hotels we stayed in China. Breakfast was basic.
Xian is a beautiful city, the people are friendly and helpful, the terracotta army is just amazing but bring a thick scarf and vicks when you go to the washrooms.

We stayed in the Bell Tower Hotel for night as we passed through Xian. The hotel is very well located near the airport shuttle bus stop and also the train station and other bus stops. The staff were very professional and helpful and the rooms were quiet, spacious and clean. We stayed in late December and it was freezing in Xian at the time. The room (and the hotel) were well heated and the hot water in the shower was fantastic. We had the hotel organise us a driver for the day to see a few of the sights around Xian including the Terracotta Warriors and this was useful. The buffet breakfast was a bit average but apart from that a great stay at this hotel.

My wife and i spent 3 nights in this very nice hotel. The rooms are rather small but who cares when you can have the most fantastic views from the hotel room of the Bell and Drum Towers. The views of the city at night were also fantastic. We found the hotel staff most helpful and polite. The breakfasts were also very good I think we may have been very lucky to have got a room with view as i believe other rooms are not that great. The location of the hotel is also very good being centrally located to a lot of the city sites.

Room Tip: Ask for a front room over looking the Bell Tower

Great central location, service was great and was one of the better locations on a month in China.Would recc.as a stop for anyone.Would avoid Turpan in NW China except exotic location, don't eat the Yak. Meet the people whenever possible, two Starbucks walking distance from Bell Tower Hotel, lots of young people. If interested I have other location in China to advise about?

This was the fourth hotel I had tried in Xi'an. I liked the location and was planning to do stuff around there. So I decided to try it out. As previous reviewers had noted, if you asked you might get a room with the Bell Tower view, which was wonderful. The noise from the traffic might keep some people up, though. The hotel was right in the middle of the old city. So it was walking distance from many major sites, such as the Bell and Drum Towers, the Muslim Quarters and the Grand Mosque, and the city wall. Food choices around there were good, too. One thing about locating in the middle of the city, though, was that the traffic was mad. Getting in and out of there could mean getting stuck in traffic for a long time. Fortunately, there was a metro station and several bus stations nearby.

My room was not extremely clean, but was OK considering the age of the hotel. And yes, the hotel was showing its age, and it was not easy fiddling around with the buttons on the bedside table to control the lighting in the room. Some buttons were faulty. No international TV station was available either -- even cheaper aparthotels around that area had them. As many had noted, the breakfast there was horrendous and not worthwhile. There were at least two Starbucks and two McDonald's within 5 minutes walk, and the Muslim Quarters also offered wonderful local selections. The service, for a hotel this level, was patchy. Some staff members were nice. Others did not seem to want to help. I had the misfortune of having smoke blown on me via the air-conditioner vent in the middle of the night (someone was apparently smoking in his/her room). The air got so polluted that I had to call the front desk to ask for help. The staff member did not sound pleased. I ended up opening the window in freezing temperature to air the room out. While the fault was not entirely the hotel's, it still could have been dealt with in better manner.

Room Tip: Ask for a room facing the Bell Tower if you are looking for the view -- it may be noisy and you will...
