The location is good because there are many european shops such as zara etc and chinese sovenire shops. Many restaurants to choose from, but there aren't many typical chinese restaurants. The staff is ok, they should smile a little bite more :)The rooms are big and the bed is wonderful. It is huge and soft. But boring view from the window. The bathroom is big and has both bathtub and shower. But I don't like black title, it gives a cold feeling. The cons is that they did not have any T-shirts and chocolate in the room. And there is no bus that goes directly to Bell tower, I had to change twice which resulted in getting lost.

Dear Primcircle,

Greetings from the Westin Xian!

I would like to personally thank you for choosing to stay with us during your trip and hope you had safe travels to your next destination. We trust you had a refreshing stay and we do hope we extended the unique Westin service we are renowned for!

It was a great pleasure to hear your experiences in the hotel regarding the services during your stay. The Westin Heavenly bed is one of our brand signatures designed to ensure a good night’s sleep and we are very happy to hear that you enjoyed it. I’m very sorry for the inconvenience caused due to the bus transportation you experienced, however our Concierge have details regarding transportation readily available at the hotel. You may in fact use the No.609 bus and this can take you to the bell tower directly, the bus station is outside right beside the hotels main entrance.

Thank you once again for your feedback and please feel free to contact us if you would like any assistance in making a booking at The Westin Xian in the future.

Looking forward to seeing you again soon at The Westin Xian!

Be well,

stayed 2 days. within easy walking distance of the "Big Wild Goose Pagoda" which requires a fee to enter the grounds. also walking distance of an OK water/light show at nite (free) and easy walking distance of lots of shops and restaurants (also free to look), some western.

Rooms large. most marble I've ever seen in one room.... even a museum. borders on "ultramodern minimalist" in design. I did not mind the design, unlike other reviewers.

buffet breakfast restaurant very good (we stayed at 3 other hotels whose buffet breakfast was outstanding.

service staff needs to be a more attentive--check back for coffee or water refills, clear plates, etc. most disconcerting was one wait staff who was nice enough but then scratched his back side in between tables.

I am a SPG Platinum member and stayed here for 3 nights. We arrived late at 9pm and check-in was quite efficient. We were upgraded to a suite which was spacious and interestingly furnished with traditional Chinese furniture and vases all in a black slate design that actually worked quite well. I enjoyed the books in the room on Ming and Qing ceramics and would have spent a day reading them if I had time. What really impressed this visit was how the staff stepped up when my partner slipped (watch out for the slick black marble) and cut his knee. I called down and the manager appeared with a first aid kit within 5 minutes and had helpful recommendations as what best to do. He would have sent a car to the hospital if needed. After that, the staff inquired daily about the need for more care - we were very touched and when things go awry in a strange land, the value of having a staff that understands and can help in a pinch is...... priceless. Mr Brock Wu, the manager that helped us, is a great advertisement for loyalty to the SPG brand. This is the sort of service that wins lasting support and confidence.

The location of the hotel was great - the windows of some of the rooms open out to views of the Big Goose Pagoda - and the area was surrounded by parks, pedestrian malls, and wonderful local restaurants (we ate very well and very cheaply) all within 2 minutes walk away. After a day of sightseeing, cross the street from the hotel and go see the Big Goose Pagoda at dusk. The serenity of the temple and pagoda at night is truly magical and worlds away from the traffic and clamor that is urban Xi'an.

The design of the hotel is almost uncompromising in its artistic vision. Clean lines, near absence of typical fixtures that intrude on the design, and hushed dark halls are initially disorienting and confusing. However, after we got our bearings, it really grew on us - serenity and zen are quite hard to find in this city - it can be a real nice relaxing break if you let it make an impression on you (just don't fall in the dark slipping on wet marble!)

Workout room was good - complete with barbells and Smith machine - not typical for a hotel gym. Did not use the pool or spa and it sure looked other-worldly.

Best points: Location, design (give it a chance), and great service when you needed it.

Room Tip: Ask for windows that look out on the pagoda for a view that is truly unique

As another reviewer posted, this place has a weird design. The location is good, across from the Dayan Pagoda, but our room on the first floor looked out at a concrete wall. The hallways are dark and long. The materials used are dark wood and slate. Even the furniture is weird.

But probably the biggest problem is the staff at breakfast. They wander around in a daze, leaving dirty dishes just sitting there. It was a big contrast from the Shangri-la in Shanghai that we were just at.

Just a weird vibe at this place.

Room Tip: Get a room higher up so that you might have a chance of a view. Get a room close to the lobby so yo...

Dear Guest:
Greetings from the Westin Xian!

I would like to personally thank you for choosing to stay with us during your trip and hope you had safe travels to your next destination.

Our hotel debuted on Mar.27, 2012 in Xian and designed by Shanghai-based Neri and Hu Design Research Office. As a “modern bridge between the past and present”, the hotel has an interesting fusion of indigenous culture and fresh design that reflects both the city’s ancient character as well as its importance in the rapid growth of the region today.

We have taken on all the points you have provided us and do rest assured that we have reviewed your comments with our department heads to implement measures for improvement concerning our guest satisfaction.

I wish to thank you for your valued comments and we sincerely hope that you would give us another opportunity to serve you again in the future.

I have no idea who designed this hotel or decided on the interior, but what I do know is it is the most depressing hotel I have ever been to. It has a very dark interior and this is extended to the rooms which are strangely laid out and furnished. The spa area is in the bowels of the hotel and is located in what feels more like a service area, rather than a place of relaxation. As you can tell, I did not care for this much

Dear David M:

Greetings from the Westin Xian!

Thank you for taking the time to discuss your recent experience at the Westin Xian.

Our hotel is the first Westin in the world and the first hotel in Xian to have its own museum, paying tribute to the ancient history of China with its exceptional collection of over 2,000 artifacts. Designed by Neri & Hu Design, The Westin Xi’an property covers nearly 3 hectares and is comprised of a 5-star hotel, museum, and shopping centre adjacent. Harmoniously fusing the indigenous culture with modern design, Westin Xi’an showcases a Tang dynasty architectural style. Measuring approximately 80,000 square meters, the main building features a covered porch and garden courtyard. Guests access cafes, restaurants, and other auxiliary facilities via this interior landscape. In alignment with the Westin’s wellness ethos, the hotel’s indoor/outdoor layout instils guests with the pleasure of being close to nature.

We hope through this short brief it may give you an understanding of the concept in which the hotel was designed and how it is meant to capture the surrounding areas history and newly developed style of the Qujiang New District.

We thank you for taking the time to bring your comments to our attention, and looking forward to seeing you again soon at The Westin Xian!

Mybwife and I just finished a three day stay at the Westin Xi'an. I read the previous reviews and kept an open mind. I am a SPG member and stay at Westin brand hotels around the world.

As stated before, the smell is still there as of September 20, 2012. It is not really strong but smells like a chemical smell.

The Hotel takes up one full block but is only 3-5 stories. Very Asian fusion looking on the modern side. Checkin was smooth enough and we were given room 2232. Taking the lobby elevators up to the second floor, we started our long walk to our room. Following the signs, we made left turns and right turns and walked down long hallways to our destination. It is silly to have only one set of elevators in such a large building.

Our room was clean and had dark colors. Bathroom was fine with a separate shower and tub. The bed was enormously large. At first I thought it was a California King but I looked under the sheets and they stuck two queen beds together. It was so large, I felt my wife was in another time zone.

Breakfast was good. Lots of selection in a buffet style. The area around the hotel was very good. Lots of local and international selections. The area also is very clean and not overly crowded. I'm still amazed by the size of the statues in the street.

A little side note. I found out the building was a former museum. They basically gutted the building a few years ago and made a hotel out of it. Hence, the long hallways and interior space.

I would probably recommend this hotel if you want to stay in a central area with dining options. We were on business and probably would not stay here again. Next time, it will be either The Shang-ri la or Swiss touch, both properties we have stayed before.

Room Tip: If possible, ask for a room near the elevator. Itbwill save you some walking time.
