This property has a regal old school Hilton feel in the public spaces. I stayed on an executive floor, the lounge is a good one with very nice breakfast but just adequate evening snacks compared to some other Hiltons. The restaurant is a formal and brightly lit one, and the lounge is also bright with very few food items, hence there is no real evening bar food option. While located in the walled city, the hotel is around twenty minutes on foot from the more interesting food and walking locations including the Muslim quarter or the downtown, and right around the property there are shopping areas but not great food from what I found. I would stay again certainly as the quality of the property is mid-high level Hilton and it can be a nice western location if you do not want to go totally local in China. Staff were OK, not exceptional but also all had some English skills and my Hilton status was acknowledged and respected. Xi'an is a cool city to visit, probably most tourists are there for the terra cotta warriors which you need to get a ride to in any case and for that this Hilton is a fine property, if you are going to want to step outside into the best part of central Xi'an there may be better locations.

We stayed at the Xian Hilton for two nights in the middle of August. The public areas of this hotel are very pretty. There is a lovely interior courtyard on the 5th floor. The lobby is quite beautiful with two large murals. Breakfast was included in our stay and the buffet was very good. The room was quite nice, and I cannot understand why other reviewers think this hotel needs an upgrade or to be redone. Our room was a good size, with two, very large and wide single beds, a great desk arrangement, a good sized closet and a very nice bathroom, with both bathtub and shower. I think the location, within the Old City walls, is great. The hotel is much nicer on the inside than it appears to be from looking at the exterior. Desk staff were not overly friendly, but they did provide courteous service. I would definitely stay here again.

Room Tip: Ask for a room overlooking the interior courtyard. There is not much to look at from a street side r...

The entrance/hall looked a bit too traditional, may even a bit out of date and an overhaul would do the hotel good. Check in was OK but one did not ask any questions as to what one wanted or giving the guest an option. Don't misinterpret this, one was very friendly but all was pretty standard and not what one expects from a 5 star hotel.

The rooms were spacious, had all one needed incl. large TV screen, coffee/thee, desk, bathtub separated by a glass wall from the bed section of the room, separate shower and toilet.
The breakfast offering was OK although a traditional westerner would have to make a selection of not a wide offering or go for eastern food.
The price/quality is in line with the offering, thus OK.

As for availability of western food the choice is very limited. Only the all-day restaurant had something to offer but one has not to expect more then a small menu. I therefore would recommend to go to another western hotel some 10 min away in the same street. They had some real good dining treats.

When returning I might prefer to try a different hotel unless I would be offered a super deal.

Very nice and luxuary stay. Breakfast was the highlight. All was perfect, we also liked the city very much. Location excellent, opposite the Hilton you find local restos.
Only two things to add:
- Hotel card with chinese address is that small written that taxi drivers can not read it :-)
- Staff not fluent in English at reception

As the first Hilton hotel in Xi'an, Hilton Xi'an is influenced by the exclusive charm of Xian. our decoration is elegant and blends Tang Dynasty style. The hotel is also focus on the healthy and environmental ideals to use more natural lighting and ventilate.

I've stayed in various hotels throughout Beijing and Hong Kong. This is one of my favorites in Xi'an. We booked the executive suite with a King Bed and were welcomed with fresh fruit, nuts, and savory treats. The bathrooms were very nice complete with old style tub, seperate marble shower with rain shower head. \
Seperate working areas with large desk complete with supplies, stationary etc., nice TV., additional bathroom.
Beds are super-comfortable and the location close to everything Xi'an.

We had access to the executive lounge with a nice selection of treats and booze.

Stayed at the Grand Hyatt in Beijing, and my entire family and traveling companions preferred this hotel hands down.

Room Tip: Try the Muslim Quarter and spicy hot, fresh noodle dishes.

We stayed at the Xi’an Hilton for two nights. As a family of four with two teenagers, we booked two rooms, in advance, via Expedia. We paid an average of $157 per room, per night, which included breakfast for some, but not all members of our party.

The hotel is located within the walled part of the city, about 8 blocks south and 2 blocks east of the train station and city wall to the north. It is in a great area with a mix of upscale shops and a large mall, as well as a “grittier” more naturally local area all within a couple blocks.

On arriving in Xi’an, we walked to the hotel (with a large suitcase and backpack each) from the train station at the north gate of the wall. But that might not be practical for all people because it must have been 8-10 blocks. Also note that every time we searched for the hotel on Google maps, it placed it about a 20 minute drive east of the city. I’m not sure why that is. I double checked the address when I got there (even checking a local street sign). Be assured that the Xi’an Hilton is within the walled part of the city, in the north-east quadrant.

While the hotel lobby is impressive and overall we were satisfied with our stay, there were a few problems that would limit our ability to fully recommend this property.

Although both our rooms were booked as “non-smoking”, one of them had a very heavy smoke smell – almost enough that we would have complained about it. We were also a little annoyed that our two rooms (one for us and one for our teenagers) were about as far away from each other on the same floor as they could be. That might have been because we added a second date to our previous one-day booking, about a week before we arrived.

Another annoying thing was (a) the elevators were secured so they required guests to use they room keys to access their floor, and (b) the card readers constantly failed to work. Over a stay of about 40 hours, we probably had to bring our card keys down to the front desk 6-8 times because they would not activate the elevators.

Other than the smoke smell, the rooms themselves were nice. The windows were large (paned floor-to-ceiling). They had a fridge and a safe. The bathrooms were quite nice with glass walls (with an electrically-controlled blind) and a separate shower with a ceiling-mounted “rain shower” fixture (although the mechanical switch to activate the shower was very poorly placed, as mentioned in a previous review).

In an odd quirk, the rooms had under-counter lighting (in both the bathroom and main room) for which we could not, despite our very best efforts, locate the switch. We ended up using towels and furniture to block the light at night so we could sleep.

The rooms also had a safe, fridge (although it wouldn’t open in one of our two rooms) and flat-screen TV.

The breakfast buffet was among the very best I have enjoyed. Unfortunately, because we booked the consecutive nights for our two rooms at different times, we appear to have booked one night with the buffet included and one night not. The result, was that only two of us could use the buffet each morning. We wouldn’t expect anything for free that we didn’t pay for. However, you think they might have invited us to “upgrade” to the buffet-included price when we discovered the discrepancy. The regular buffet price was prohibitive. But I think the difference between the room price with and without the breakfast buffet worked out to something like $6 per person. That said, we might have snuck out a few doughnuts and croissants for the other two on the “off” mornings. The breakfast contained an excellent variety of hot foods, pastries, local foods and others. We had eggs, bacon, pancakes, waffles, doughnuts and croissants.

The hotel advertised itself as having “free” wi-fi in the common areas and wi-fi for a fee in the rooms. However, we found that the “common area” signal was more than strong enough to reach the rooms.

The check-in/desk staff were very friendly and were able to accommodate us in English when we needed help. One of the hotel staff also helped us negotiate hiring a car and driver for the day.

I was satisfied enough with the Xi’an Hilton that I would stay here again. But if I saw another comparable hotel with a good price and location, I would definitely consider booking it.
