Without hesitation to choose this restaurant that is said to be the No.1 of Yangrou Paomo.
It is a tasty Xi'an specialty that consist of a mutton soup served with wheat bread.

Of course you can have waiter make the bread into pieces
and add to the soup, but I decided to do it myself.
The bread is really hard and takes nearly 20mins to finish it.
Anyway,no pains no gains.
Satisfied with the fantastic taste after my hardwork!

This was one of the most memorable meals we had on our trip to China. The restaurant is huge and brightly lit and you sit at communal yellow tables. We were the only westerners in the restaurant and locals were definitely eyeing us suspiciously but we had read how to prepare the mutton stew so we at least looked like we knew what we were doing.

The food here is cheap but absolutely delicious. We had lamb dumplings and their specialty, yangrou paomo (shredded bread soaked in mutton stew). You tear the dense bread into small pieces in your bowl which the servers then take away and fill with hearty mutton stew causing the bread to expand into delicious dumpling morsels. It is such a hearty, simple, but addictive dish. I dream about this stew.

Although it used to be the most famed Paomo restaurant in the city, It caters mainly to tourists both domestic and abroad now. Local people seldom dine at this because it's generally overpriced compared with its less famed peers.

It was difficult to find this restaurant as it is on the 3rd floor and we had to ask for it several times. But once we found it we were quite happy. The food was interesting. They serve a special goat soup which was quite tasty once you added the cilantro and hot sauce. They had many other dishes which we did not try as the soup was quite filling. Must have been a good place as it was quite busy and we had to share a table.

There is plenty of choice of snacks in the muslim area of Xi'an but this one you should try it and it's one of the best. The volume makes that the recipe has been practice for thousand of times and the taste is excellent. Not for tourist as you will see many locals there as well. You better like the lamb meat, otherwise it could be difficult for you. It's a thing to try once you are in Xi'an.
