“Dayan Pagoda (Big Goose)”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 19, 2013

Unique "squarish" pagoda. 5 Storey tall. Specially built for the Tang Monk to preserve the Buddhist scripts which he brought back from the journey west

“Brilliant light and sound show”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 10, 2013

I visited this lovely pagoda in the Northern Square in late afternoon and stayed till late at night. The dancing fountains and the music was really great. But it looks even more beautiful at night when the Pagoda and the fountain area is all lit up.
The lush green gardens in the park help people to relax, unwind, dance, sing and exercise.
It is very popular with the Chinese and the tourists alike. There are plenty of small shops and restaurants nearby. There is an extra fee if one wants to go up all those steps which can be very steep. It is not worth the money to go up if the sky is not clear because of pollution.

“Fountain or Pagoda or both”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 30, 2013

If you like the fountain, go at night but do not stand at far end of the fountain pool as there will be a strong single jet that shoot real high. Depending on the wind, you may get drenched. Fountain is best watch at night as they will light up the pagoda, it is a real beautiful sight.

As for the Pagoda, it is slight slanted if you are not aware. Additional fees payable to go up and give you some good view on good weather day. By the way, there are too many construction within Xi'an nowsaday. Bad air and hazy sky give no reason to go up.

Shopping street there, just another tourist trap.

“Not just the main fountain”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 28, 2013

The area around the fountain has plenty of shops. A small park across the street to the east has an smaller fountain and is dedicated to Chinese Opera. Explore the park and you might find musicians and singers.
Go to the shopping center south west of the pagoda and be amazed at the electronic display on the ceiling.
