Previously an art gallery, this expansive property is designed around the traditional Chinese courtyard homes of yesteryear. Most rooms overlook large, open garden areas with water feature design. Very therapeutic after a long day out sightseeing in this fascinating city. Walking distance to the Big Wild Goose Pagoda, one of the major attractions here. There is also Asia's largest musical water fountain adjacent to the pagoda, on the other side of the hotel. Worth seeing (nightly at 9pm).

This hotel has a lovely courtyard area with many fountains, statues and plentiful seating areas. It is quite beautiful in that sense. It is also situated right next to the Big Goose Pagoda and it's surrounding park. You will be within walking distance to the water fountain show, the pagoda, a few small parks and lots of tourist-style shopping places. We enjoyed this about the hotel. We easily spent the day roaming around the ground, eating popsicles, popping into shops, and food places. The history museum is also near. Also, if you are interested in seeing the Terracotta Warriors, you can take city bus #5 which picks up across the street from the hotel. Ride it all the way to the last stop and you will be at the bus station where many buses go to the excavation site. Although the location is great, I gave this hotel 3 stars because I thought the room was dusty and dirty. Not terribly dirty, but dirty enough to notice (if that makes sense). There were also tiny fruit flies and mosquitoes in our room. And although the staff were extremely attentive, it was not always easy to communicate with them clearly.

The hotel location is great for evenings and sight-seeing. The gardens are very beautiful and the rooms have lots of character and a nice outdoor sitting area through french doors. The bathroom was small and a bit run-down .Water ran from the shower into the rest of the bathroom, rather than the shower drain due to the floor sloping the wrong way. Breakfast was OK - best thing is proper espresso coffee. Also throughout the night there was distinctive "cracking" sound. Staff do not speak english but were very pleasant.

the Tang Dynasty Art Garden Hotel was an unexpected respite from the heat and the crowds. A lovely traditional yet modern courtyard hotel with great rooms and good service. The only downside was little English ability on the part of the staff, and little experience in helping foreign tourists find their way around. The hotel is a city bus ride away from the old city -- a challenge for non-Chinese speakers! But the location, right next to the Wild Goose Pagoda and near "Happy Mall" made for some great nighttime interactions with Chinese crowds who gathered to dance and hang out in the evenings. A short block away are some lovely Chinese and western restaurants.

The only thing I can say bad about this hotel is that no one spoke english which was really difficult. The hotel is in a great location with a ton of stuff going on. Our room was very clean and the bed was comfortable. The courtyard was really nice and they had music playing in the evening.
