“A Hotel in the middle of Public Garden Area”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed June 5, 2013

We start our journey to China on May 5 2013 and arrive at Beijing on June 6 in the morning with connecting flight to Xian.
We never been here and just saw a review made by others on internet. So advertising is not the same like reality. It is a standard 3 star hotel, only a little change on decoration in some corners of the hotel.
Breakfast is good, and location also good. near the singing fountain and goose pagoda.
But the price is not equal with facility, in my point of view it is too expensive. But wise man said "every experience has cost"
Have a nice vacation!!

Room Tip: choose a room that facing the garden

The Tang Dynasty Art Garden is one of the nicest hotels I've ever stayed in, and I've stayed in a lot of nice hotels. The grounds are spectacular, and the location-literally in the shadow of the Big Wild Goose Pagoda and the Ci'en Temple- only adds to the pleasure of staying here. Sure, the wooden soaking tub is a little awkward to shower in, but it's pretty. Sure, the bed is hard as the baked clay from which the terra cotta warriors are constructed, but Chinese beds are hard, and this is a Chinese hotel in the best possible sense. The rooms are nicely appointed and very well maintained. And while it is not my practice while at home in the US to eat jellyfish for breakfast with my espresso, I could get used to it. Really. Stay here--but not if you don't want to stay in a gorgeous historic building in a lovely location.

Really a good suggestion to have the taste of fine Chinese arts and tourism. Very good price and quality even Chinese style.
Do not aspect to have continental breakfast, but one of the best cappuccino.Breakfast is with Chinese style.
I suggest for all, family and friends.

Very nice area surrounding the hotel.
Rooms are very nice and cosy (cold & wet ) when we stayed.
Disappointed with breakfast, hot food served cold, not ready in restaurant at 7am (opening time) & our meal had to be rushed as tour guide waiting.
Rooms are well equipped, lots of toiletries, slippers, gowns, computer English tv channel.
Gardens beautiful pity it was raining!
We arrived at Xi'an North station on the Fast train from Beijing, the taxi driver reluctant at driving so far until he realised we were able to pay 15 RMB.......
It is about 20 kLms from this station the journey not very scenic.
Overall would stay here again just lovely

All the room numbers start with 8, which is an auspicious number in Chinese. And you'd be lucky to have a chance to stay at this beautifully constructed compound with courtyards, fountains, pagodas, staff in traditional dress, even entertainment by a Chinese classical ensemble in the evenings.

The location, while outside of Xi'an's ancient walls, is superb as it is literally steps away from the Big Wild Goose Pagoda and the surrounding shops, restaurants, gardens and the free nightly music and fountain show (better than Bellagio's... really).

I found the spacious room to be very well appointed, including the great wooden tub in the bathroom and powerful rain shower. The bed and pillows are very firm, so if you like your pillow-top mattresses, this is not the place for you. The Chinese breakfast buffet is also superb. Tip: if there are two or three steaming racks, each one usually holds a different kind of bun, some with filing, some not. Just lift up a rack and look underneath.

Note: the staff speaks very little English. I think they can understand quite a bit but they just can't respond well. There is no tour desk, so don't expect any touristic assistance. Although WiFi is advertised throughout, it did not work in my room. I had to go to the dining room or lobby where the signal is fine.

Notwithstanding the few shortcomings, this hotel truly offers you an oasis after a long day touring the Warriors and tombs, or jostling with the crowds in Xi'an. Enjoy!

4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 29, 2013

My wife and I stayed for 3 nights in January in this hotel and enjoyed the room as well as the experience of staying in an old style Chinese building. The hotel is well located right in the middle of a bustling (yet quiet in the room) shopping and eating area. There are many restaurants, attractions and malls well within walking distance as well as well landscaped parks. The accommodation itself is quite nice with ample space, free wi-fi, a more than adequate complementary breakfast, and english speaking staff. Some small issues encountered though was the rock hard bed in the room and spotty wi-fi coverage at least in out room in the back corner of the hotel. The television is a Chinese satellite service with hundreds of channels, but only one or two in english if you can navigate the Chinese menus. The wi-fi and TV certainly aren't the reason you came to Xi'an, and after all you're in China, so it's not a huge issue, but the beds could use some work. Overall though, a nice place to stay with some "atmosphere" inside the hotel and out, along with a nice enough room and heater in January. A place to come back to if ever in the area again.
