Owner description: Li River is the mother river for Guilin city. The unique shaped peaks, verdant bamboo forests, tranquil and crystal waters, narrow bamboo rafts which ply the river have presented many subjects for the landscape painters over centuries.

Our guide Lele met us at the airport in Guilin. He and the driver took us to our hotel in Guilin. We were only spending the night there because the next morning we were going to Yongshou.

We took a boat ride from Guilin to Yongshou and spent two nights there. Lele took us to the on a quick walk around the town pointing out some highlights and then to our hotel. We'd been in china for about a week at this point so we were running out of clean cloths. Lele took us to a local place around the corner from our hotel for laundry drop off. Not speaking more than a hand full of words in Mandarin, i very much appreciated his assistance.

We spent the rest of the afternoon/evening on our own. We took a walk to the park and did some sightseeing.

The second day Lele took us on a walk through a local grocery market and we had a little show and tell where he pointed out a lot of fruit and vegetables that we don't see at home. After that we took a short climb up to a lookout point in the park which gives a great overlook of the city. Later that day we did a cooking class, which was awesome and then we drove to another town to take photos with a local fisherman. It was an awesome experience.

The last day in Yongshou we went on a bike ride up the shore of the dragon river. The ride out of town was with some local traffic but before long we were on a nice bike trail with breathtaking views all around.

Our next stop was Longsheng rice terraces. It was a few hours drive from Yongshou and maybe a 1~2 mile climb up to our hotel. We were only staying for the night so we had our clothes in backpacks. Lele and the driver took care of our larger suit cases.

Scenery at the rice terraces was amazing. Lele got us an upgraded room which had a spectacular view, too. Lele had told us about the local bamboo rice and we were dying to try some, so Lele recommended a great place for dinner that evening.

The next morning my wife and I took photos of the sunrise and had breakfast before meeting Lele for a hike to the higher terraces for an amazing overlook of the area.

Later that day we took the van ride back to the airport in Guilin for our flight to Shanghai. When we arrived at the airport our flight was running 4 hours late! Some how Lele pulled of the most amazing thing, he got us switched to different flight which got us out of Guilin less than an hour after our original flight. Words cannot express how glad i was that he was able to do that. We were already only going to be spending two days in Shanghai, and had we not left guilin until 11 at night, our next day would have been ruined.

Lele was outstanding. His english was probably the best of all of the guides we had in country. He was always on the lookout for us making me feel very well taken care of.

If you come to the Guilin, I could not recommend Lele highly enough. Thanks for making our trip that much better!

When we booked our trip we initially wanted to cruise the Yangtze River as we weren't aware of the River Li. We were told that the Li was much quieter and prettier, and boy were they right !
The boat itself is one of many that cruise the 60km or so towards Yangshuo, is large enough that you're not crowded, and served a very nice lunch on board.
Obviously most of the 4-5 hours is spent on the upper deck taking numerous photos of the stunning scenery and landscape that amazes you around every bend in the river.
You just have to see it to believe it !
Our private guide accompanied us so we had commentary provided when needed which was great as there's none provided by the boats themselves.
Whilst the river cruises are a good source of income for the region, it has been done very tastefully and no tacky souvenirs or over commercialisation were present.
Overall, it was a brilliant day from start to finish and something you have to do when in China, we'll be talking about it for a while time.

We would like to recommend Jackie, our tour guide, for those three days. She is a very competent and friendly young woman.
The boat trip down Li River was a highlight of course, as was the visit to the Daxu village. If possible, avoid the Sheraton hotel in Guilin which feels extremely outdated.

This should be one of the place to visit in China. We enjoyed the Li River Cruise the best. Likewise, the Night Cruise of Guilin's Lake in the City, as an option, was just as wonderful. We stayed at Sheraton Hotel and just a walk away from nice local restaurants and souveneir shops and nice market. We should have stayed longer if we knew how wonderful this trip was. China Highlight Tours provides us with a great Guide, Henry. He is very accommodating and very friendly.
