Owner description: Resembling an elephant drinking water from the Li River with its long trunk, this hill towers more than 55 meters above the water.

It is just the landmark of Guilin city. If you are interesting in the inscriptions on precipices, you can see it under the elephant trunk. I do not recommend tourists to visit it as this scenic spot are not interesting and with one-hour visit, your will be boring. If you want to tell people you have been to Guilin, you can have a visit it--just for the photo. Price for this scenic spot is about USD 13.

Most people just see it from afar but it is good to walk to the open cave at the elephant's trunk. We actually first climbed up to the old pagoda and viewing point on the hill before finding our way down to the cave. However, we later discovered that one can actually get there by walking through the forecourt of the Kuan Yin temple, all at ground level! There is also a smaller cave by the trunk which looks like the barrel of a gun at the start of James Bond movies :-)

Another tip - they now charge RMB75 to enter the park but we got tickets for RMB55 each from CITS (first floor office) which is just across the road, near the twin pagodas in the lake.

It's kind of expensive, and in reality, a lot of the rocks could be construed as elephants. The best part is really the fact that you can climb to the top of elephant trunk hill, which means that you can see panoramic views of everythin

if u are in a tight budget u can walk 10mins north, then you will see a bridge where u can see and take a picture of the elephant rock for free

but come on.... its not even 15usd to get in.... in there there is a bar with chairs in the river...
the beer costs 8RMB... its really nice to have a beer there sitting in the water with this beautiful view ! I recommend to get in !

most hostels offers entrance tickets cheaper than the ones at the spot !

There's an entrance fee, not cheap, it has lots of touristy stuff to look at and photograph like a "village" that looks like ten pins from a bowling alley, modern and arty I suppose, The climb of the hill has some great views of the river and Guilin, good opportunity for photos. The rest is just look and walk around. They had a wine shop which has the history of Chinese wine - all written in Chinese with pictures and plenty of touristy junk to buy. There was another building housing more touristy stuff (necklaces of Year of the Rabbit etc) with a person selling pictures of yourself on a big throne dressed up as a Chinese warlord or lord. There's no catering for people in English in such places so it's hard to figure out what they're there for other than selling stuff you don't need. The Hill though is worth the visit if you can stand the touristy element.
