James Joyce Coffetel Guanguang Branch
Ranked #153 of 648 Hotels in Guilin

We stayed at Guilin Plaza Hotel with a tour group in October. The hotel is about average, no serious complaint about it because we knew what price we paid for this trip. What we don't like was its location - it's far away from the major scenic sites and city center; No views at all, the surrounding area is less organized and nothing to say nearby. The hotel was a bit old. We tried to change to a better room with clearner carpet, but we were told only three floors were relatively new but were usually reserved for individual travelers who pay higher pirce than tour groups do. There are many hotels in Guilin, and it's such a beautiful place to wonder around on your own. Don't stay in Guilin Plaza.

I spent a night here becuase the Sheraton was full.
I can say that this hotel failed in every detail.
The funny thing is that when I drove up I was thinking that perhaps this was going to be a pleasant experience. I walked in with a conscious will to accept that Chinese run hotels can be OK. From a certain distance everything looks quite impressive. but after a about 1 hour on the property one realises that it is all like a dolls house, pretty to look at but doesn't really do the job.
Check in and out takes ages. like they are doing it for the first time.
Room - dirty carpet, curtains don't close, power point doesn't work, no power point in bathroom.
bar - not open in the evening.
Breakfast- no buffet service, only a la carte which takes too long.
health club - machines not fully functioning.
Regretably, The girls trying to entice you for massage, seem to be the only ones who understand about business.

We stayed in this hotel at the end of our Kuoni China tour. It provides clean and comfortable accommodation. Shops and stores are within easy walking distance. Service was good. Breakfast was well-provisioned with a wide range of foods for all tastes. Views are not good, being the surrounding apartments and waste ground.

We toured China with CYTS (china youth travel service) who were excellent, the trip was booked through Hayes and Jarvis a UK company, our guide in Beijing was serene...she was brilliant, we stayed in the Novohotel which was really nice, then onto Xian (a lovely city, much older than Beijing, excellent city walls etc then onto Guilin to cruise the river Li, (excellent cruise) Here is the down part...the Hotel Plazza was crap, dirty rooms, they try to charge you for drinks and laundry which we never used (not just us but most of our party) they charge you for the swimming pool - which no-one used because it was in a stinking condition, charge for table tennis, charge for snooker, in fact you name it they charged extra for it -and this was supposed to be a five star hotel!!!!!

this was a great hotel= getting there can be a challenge ( unless the road is finished by now) but the location is great- walk to the mogote park, and you can see then from your room.
they also have bicycles to rent which is a pretty cool way to get arund the town. the restuarant and bar have goo dfood and huge bottle of the local lichuan beer for a reasonable rate.

the potential problem for some might be the distance to the town. means that you need a cab to get dinner- or you eat int he hotel. For me, the location was better than the town.
