“I wanted to like the Hotel but in the end I wouldn't stay there again”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 14, 2010

We stayed at the Jianguo from 11/5 - 11/9 as it is quite convenient to the American consulate. We stayed on the 12th floor. The room was clean and bathroom modern and water hot. The bed was quite hard but still a very nice mattress. Cable TV was what I would expect from this class of hotel. The buffet breakfast was good but not as great of selection as I have been used to at previous comparable hotels in China. The service was good and amenities mimicked a 4 start hotel i.e., business center. The location is near the Josco where you can buy your dinner quite cheap if your spouse happens to speak mandarin or you point well in chinese. We liked the area up until the point the 2010 Asia games started and then security became too much at the hotel as it is close to the stadium/arena. The Jianguo really needs to work on how to treat people when trying to impose airport like security when entering the hotel. Since we were in and out of the hotel throughout the day this became painful. And the 2 hour lockdown on 11/7 that was forced upon us did not sit well with me as they threatened to enter our room and go through all of luggage including the room safe. As a result I started carrying everything on my person which kind of defeats the purpose of having a hotel safe. Fortunately we were able to move out of the area to the Victory hotel which is way more American friendly and though much older has charm. Though I will still recommend the hotel to other travelers as it is a good hotel it left a bad taste in my mouth and nothing will ever change that and I won't stay there again.

The Jianguo Guangzhou is sort of a mid-range almost four star hotel. Very convenient to the East railway station, where the trains to/from HOng KOng go, 2 minutes walk to train station. THere are two metro subway lines nearby, so you can get to most of the rest of the city pretty fast.

THe room was fine, everything worked, they had a few English t.v. channels, including HBO and CNN. Free internet in the rooms, worked great. Nice bathroom amenities. THere was some minor caulking issue around the shower, everything else was nice and clean. The bed was just a little hard, but well within acceptable. NIce quality sheets. Carpet seemed pretty new, and furniture was all clean and nice.

Around the hotel is a McDOnald's, KFC, a large super market, and a few convenience stores. THere is an IKEA store 2 minutes away, that has great and inexpensive restaurants in it. THe food at the hotel for breakfast was fine in a nice setting. I went to the lavish dinner buffet at the nearby Westin Hotel, very expensive, but great to have high quality food so close.

Very helpful staff, helped with directions and luggage.

THere is no perfect central ocation for GUangzhou cause it's so big, so this location was as good as anyplace else.

Stayed for 3 nights recently. Beds were hard so not the most comfortable sleep.
Rooms were clean and fresh amenities/towels daily. Location is Ok if you are here doing business or arriving at the East Railway station. Have stayed previously at Holiday Inn Shifu and would prefer that we had stayed there again as I found it had more character (old China) and plenty to see, do & eat (from a tourist perspective) They also changed AUD without a problem where Jianguo would only change USD and I had to walk a good 10m to find a bank. English was limited to only a few staff. Concierge gave our taxi wrong information after requesting HInn Shifu to be written in Chinese. Ended up at HInn Central, luckily the taxis are cheap!!

This hotel is absolutely fantastic. Clean, fairly modern, great sized rooms and a pretty decent view (I was on the 23rd floor in one of the executive rooms).

The hotels in a fantastic area. There is a decent underground mall right outside the hotel. There are lots of Westernised restaurants close by.

The hotel has buses taking you to and from the Canton Trade Fair. The service was absolutely fantastic (in fact if there was anything I didn't like it was the amount of times they knocked on my door). I would recommend this hotel.

Finally, the hotel is right next to the train station which takes you over to Hong Kong, Shenzhen etc. So if you're feeling adventurous, or if you've got to visit factories located in those areas, this is an idea place to be.
