The place is okay. I went there during the Chinese New Year. The Chinese kept staring the animals but my foreign face. That was annoying. So many people. The cats were in really small cages, poor animals! We had to walk in a line to see some species.
I loved zebras, an elephant, a rhino.. They have better areas of habitat. Tigers have like a rocky wall for climbing. Some areas do stink, though.
I was fascinated by the giraffes. They put their faces right in the crowd to get some treats. Some animals looked really cute. I would go there again. It's like national geographic for me.
You can take subway red line and get off dong wu yuan station.

The zoo is in the center of Guangzhou and can be easily reached by metro or buses. The entrance fee is considerate. Best days to go are Monday to Friday due to the fact that most people work then, therefore the zoo belongs to you, almost. A nice extra is, for a little fee you will be given some tree leaves which you than feed hand to mouth to giraffes. In addition there is all little pet zoo which allows children to ride on pony's or camels. A real show are the tigers, a variety from siberian to bengal tigers can be admired for their beauty and strength. All in all it keeps you two to three hours busy and for children it is a memorable day in their life, as it is for adults if attached to animals.

This trip was expensive $250 Australian per person and very very long 16 hours. A boring trip showing very few attractions. The attractions shown had shops attached to the and the purpose of the shop was to coerce you into buying their goods. The included lunch was very poor, staff at restaurant rude and the toilets filthy. Certainly would not recommend this tour

Many of the animals are kept in small, bare cages that clearly aren't fit for habitation. It was as though the zoo didn't have room for the animals they had and just put them wherever. There was a real tiger habitat with 3 animals in it and 5 or 6 others kept in small cages nearby. The whole place stank of feces and had litter everywhere. The only cool thing was that you could feed giraffes for 10rmb.

Also, the local Chinese shout and hurl objects at animals to get them to do stuff and the staff didn't do anything about it. China should be embarrassed by the sorry state of this zoo.

The few to get in is cheap (20 rmb) and feeding the giraffes was definitely the high point.

I think workers should be aware to those who are throwing food and touching the animals and start teaching more respect.

Its disappointing to see the jaguars, wolves and panthers in the same size cage as the birds. All of the cement makes it a bit depressing. Maybe it'll change one day?
