This was such a depressing place to visit. I can't imagine seeing much worse conditions in a major zoo. The small cages look like they belong from 100 years ago, especially the big cat enclosures. They are tiny concrete rings with no room for the cats to really move and it really just made us sad. There were absolutely no keepers around when we were there and everywhere people were showering animals with food, literally throwing over the do not feed signs. It is a big place that could probably be developed into a great zoo but it seems all about the numbers of visitors. Avoid if you don't want a spoiled day or image of Guangzhou.

This zoo is a value at the price but the conditions for the animals leaves much to be desired. The shows at this zoo are well done but you can see the way they train the animals isn't the best. There are some amusement rides for people to go on at this zoo but they cost extra. There are a few restaurants in the zoo and the one we ate at was delicious. The price was a little higher than normal but that is to be expected. Over all it was a nice time.

great long day out - tons of animals to visit - large free range enclosures for the well treated animals - comes complete with a massive circus next door with animals like dancing bears and trained orangutans entertaining the crowds.
