The hotel is just at the start of Beijing Lu - The shopping street of Guangzhou, China. Hotel is basic and needs better linen and room decor. Location & View is excellent,,,but that's all you would get. Our Tub was choked and had water over flowing. But I could not be bothered as it was just my suitcase staying at the hotel. Was there during the Canton Fair so the rate of RMB: 960/- that I paid was surely on the higher side for what service is available. But during exhibitions all hotels increase their rates. Normal rates are at RMB:350/-. I would surely stay here again due to the city center location that the hotel has.

Room Tip: Choose a higher floor for a great view of teh city...

everyone can tollerate 2 or 3 star hotel. but hotels that are full of corckroaches was pathetic.. Lido's location was perfect. BUT.... it really needs renovation.rooms are very very old.. and unclean.. the extra bed was a joke! paying 600 rmb for a night in cushion less bed was a mediocre. the bus are always late during canton fair. SPa was good but still needs cleanliness... and they provided 4 bus from hotel to fair and 2 buses back.. no problem with its service, staffs can speak little english. which was good for a 3 star hotel.

Its either the person giving review of this hotel was given upgraded rooms which i guess is something below level 20 but if you are given anything above that, beware and be afraid....be very afraid. We checked in for a nite after hearing mixed review of some good rooms and some saying the rooms are very old. We were the unlucky one as the level given to us is level 28 (highest floor is 29th). The moment you enter, the smell of old wood cover the entire ambience and with wall paper peel off here and there, we quickly objected to the lobby. After pursuing, they throw us to the highest floor 2918. Our quest were further dumbfolded when this room is as bad as the previous one. Sencing that we are there for just a nite (business purpose) we just take it and throw everything there and shoot off for our assignment. The interesting part is in the evening as when we left the room, we left the aircond and key slot on in order to maintaian the room temperature. To our dismay it was around 30degree when we return and there is almost zero airconditioning except the air cond sound. Feeling tired and despair. We ignore everything and just tuck in and hope for a nice sleep anf thats when all forms of ugly dreams surface that nite. So you have it, room is ugly, probably haunted, bad smell of wood, hard bed, no aircond, poor tv reception, no longbath and ugly people at the reception. Hope those who gave a five star review on this establishment go try out other 3 star hotel around the area as i can only give it a 2 star rating.

Some floor's room in this hotel is newly renovated. Stayed in 21st floor king size bedroom, very spacious and comfortable rooms.
Good location for shopping as the famous beijing street is just opposite the hotel.
No free drinking water supply. So you have to buy your own drinking water.
A lot of restaurant nearby, food is not a worry issue here.
Overall happy with this hotel. Will stay here whenever I visit Guangzhou.

I stayed in Lido Hotel from 14-Sep-2011 to 20-Sep-2011 in the Business Room at 20th floor. The room are clean and very comfortable. The hotel location is very good and the 6th chinese restaurant serve good tim-sum in the morning. There isn't much service and you can't expect much in China. Overall very happy with the hotel room.

Room Tip: Business room are good

We travelled as a group of 8 adults + 2 kids. Ended up with 4 rooms (2 renovated, 2 not renovated) on 3 different floors despite having made reservations about a week prior.

Quality of the renovated rooms vs non renovated rooms are miles apart which goes without saying. Those travelling with kids should pay a little more for the nicer rooms with better mattresses. My non renovated room's mattress was so hard (+flat pillows), it was impossible to sleep on my sides without jabbing my internal organs with my elbow.

Location is good. Good shopping literally right at your doorstep.

Restaurant on the 6th floor serves pretty good food if you feel too lazy to travel too far for food. Dim sum only starts at 2pm. McDonald is right next door.

Do note that smoking is allowed at the lift lobbies so if smoke smell bothers you, best to request for rooms as far away from the lift lobby as possible.

Room Tip: Renovated rooms have better mattresses and shower rooms.
