We stayed at the HeeFun Apartment Hotel on a recent business trip to China and came away very disappointed. We were there for an LED lighting convention at the Poly World Trade Center, so the location was ideal for that purpose - but nothing else. There isn't a restaurant at the hotel, and none nearby, so we caught a train to a district that we were told by hotel staff had good Cantonese restaurants. What a mistake! We arrived in a very unfamiliar place and couldn't find anyone who spoke English to be able to ask where a good restaurant was in the area. We were even turned away from one, as the waitress couldn't speak English and seemed horrified we'd even walked through the doors! Ended up in a very dodgy Japanese restaurant and had an awful meal as it's the only place we could find.
The hotel room we were staying in had a really, really bad smell (like sewerage) and despite numerous complaints the staff couldn't do anything to eradicate it. They couldn't swap us to another room as the hotel was full (because of the convention) and when we asked for a discount the next day all they could manage was to remove the service charge. The smell was so bad we felt physically ill!
The hotel is about 45 minutes from the city centre, so you really are in the middle of nowhere. I'm sure there are some lovely places to eat and shop etc in Guangzhou, but they are certainly not anywhere near these apartments!
My advice would be to stay somewhere near the city and catch transport out to the convention centre if you are going there for an expo.
Not a good experience - at all!

I've been in a wide range of hotels in China, from amazingly bad to very good so I wasn't expecting too much but was pleasantly surprised.

This hotel is for Canton Fair visitors only as there is nothing else nearby. When you leave the metro station turn right and head for block D, then ask for someone at the desk to show you to the eighth floor (the lift needs a card) you will find reception in room 806 and check in was quite quick. Then shown my apartment. Very new, clean and nicely decorated with views through the haze to the pearl river. The mini bar has a few assorted cans and some pot noodles but no cutlery or crockery except for two tea cups. The TV has one English speaking channel (CCTV News) so bring a book.

That's it - if you want food there's a food court by the metro station with McDonalds, subway and various Chinese options or having saved so much why not walk to the Westin or Shangrila and treat yourself to an overpriced breakfast or dinner.

When we reach Poly World Trade Centre, we thought the hotel cannot be here as there is no name whatsoever but upon checking with the guard, it is just next to Hall C. Make sure you ask for the receptionist to use their access card to go 8th Floor for check in. The staffs were helpful enuff. No complaint at all.

Room is very new with facilities like fridge, microwave and washing machine. Only let down is the toilet that uses glass to separate the room. You will need to off the light in the toilet when you shower or people outside will see whatever inside.

Location is just a mere 3 minutes walk to Hall A and 10 minutes walk to Hall B & C through the MRT/LRT. Not much restaurant available here but just below the apartment, there is a 24hrs convenience stall. Glad that we choose to stay here as they are thousands of people rushing for LRT after the exibition closing hours. Just take 3 station to Kechun and you will have choice of foods. Just cost you a mere RMB 3. To go to airport, it cost you only RMB 9. No hassle.

Room Tip: Top floor facing Pearl River is good. Nice view at nite.
