Owner description: This lovely, tree-lined neighborhood bordering the Pearl River was once home to foreign merchants, and today is a laid-back area ideal for strolling or stopping for a meal or cup of tea.

Colonial style houses, tree-shaded streets and a nice park and interesting history were features of Shamian Island. We took the metro to Huangsha station then asked locals for directions. We had a nice lunch at Lucy's restaurant in the park.

If you like the old days, you here.
Do not wait for old things here and building era Ch'in(Qin).

The maximum that you can find - the 19th century when China was ruled by Britain and France,
while the Chinese are not allowed to come to the island of Shamian.

This is the place you can see 1-2 times, sit in a cafe, look at the muddy river ZUJIANG.

There you will see the old church of Our Lady of Lourdes Church (1892).

Here comes a lot of young couples who are just married.

Also many school classes superiors here do physical exercises.

Shamain Island is full of old European Style buildings.

It's a fun place to walk around and do some sight seeing. Relaxed, cool, covered in trees, There is also a park inside where people come to exercise and socialize,

Overall nice place to visit.

We caught the metro from Tianhe (Y4 each way) and alighted about a block from the island. Shamian Island is an interesting historical place to walk around. Great history with good interpretive singnage- most include English. Historic buildings of various styles influenced by different nationalities and lovely garden walk ways.
You can also walk around the island along the Pearl river side.
The White Swan Hotel is worth a look. We didn' t dine but it looked great. Lots of eating options available on the island. It is obviously a popular spot for wedding photos. We visited on a Monday and saw about 10 different wedding parties and photographers
