This hotel was old and dirty. My first night there I went to take a shower and the water was a yellowish brown for the first few mins. We stayed here 3 nights and the rest of the time the water ran clear each time I ran it.

As for the staff, it was pretty much hit or miss. Some people where helpful and some not so much. I just tried to remember the friendly helpful faces, and steered clear of the others.

The location is pretty okay. Beijing road is pretty close by. The taxis didn't seem to have a problem with finding it.

I would say all in all, the value isn't here in this hotel. I drove up to the Westin and absolutely beautiful. We checked the price of the hotel and it was more reasonable to stay there. We already paid the full price upon arrival, so no chance to change, but next time will try out the Westin.

All in all I was very disappointed in the Garden Hotel. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone, and they seem to like to bill themselves as a luxury hotel, when I would rate them a bit below a Holiday Inn but better than a motel 6.

Some say this is the best hotel in town. Maybe that was true back in the 1980s. The rooms are small, the interior decorating is boring, the location is not convenient, and the breakfast is nothing spectacular. I will not stay in this hotel again. Pay less elsewhere and be happier.

Central location to a lot of places in town. With a Bank of China branch in the lobby, cash withdrawal is convenient for foreign issued cards. High end luxury boutiques just across the road.

The Japanese restuarant in the hotel is of international standard and is affordable.

Very huge lobby, easy check in-out.

Stayed in a suite with a living area separated from the bathroom. Clean and neat but not considered very luxurious for the price.

However, will not stay again for the price as I am able to get a similar room for a much lower price.

At 28 nights at the hotel on this stay, I had ample time to "experience" most aspects of the hotel. This is my 3rd stay here and likely my last. OK, the hotel is big, huge lobby, nice gardens, and some nice staff, but it needs work. The rooms are in desparate need of complete renovations. Guangzhou has several recently opened 5- star properties (offering very good discounts) and I'll be there next visit to Guangzhou. Why? 1)-the rooms are shabby 2) the neighbourhood is dodgy...go for a walk and you're accosted by prostitutes and pimps and offers of drugs. Even on hotel property, I was harrased -- not acceptable at a 5-star property. A dismal building site stands adjacent (the has been no work on the building for 10+ years) ...overall, its not a pleasant place to walk. Even on an upper floor with an upgraded room, the carpet was worn, the furniture chipped (but the bed was very comfy). This place was "the place to stay" a decade ago but hasn't kept up with necessary upgrades, hence, its losing ground and host lost my business.

The hotel is okay in terms of amenities. The location is very good with good restaurants within walking distance. There is even a Starbucks right next door-very important for my breakfast fix. The restaurants in the hotel is very expensive for the quality.

They gave me a free upgrade for a suite and I still escaped after one night. This is not a brand name chain hotel. It is huge (the building but not the rooms) but lacking both personatility and comfort. The gym is for a charge, what was important for me.

There is a Holiday Inn just across the road what I definitely like more. The rooms are bigger, even though there is a visible lack of luxury, in any other way it is a better place to stay in the same location. As yet another option, I would recommend China Hotel (Marriott) what beats Garden in every single way, has an excellent service, Starbucks and a great teppanyaki restaurant in addition to all the bells and whistles of a 5-star hotel. Beware of rising rates, though! China Hotel often double the rates during local events (minor trade fairs, not Canton fair) while the others (Holiday Inn, Garden) do not.

Absolutely excellent hotel---definitely the best in Guangzhou. I've stayed there on many different occasions but I am currently living at their long-term residence in the East (or West...?) tower. The rooms are impeccably clean and (from what I've seen) very clean cut and modern. The lobby is constantly abuzz but the rooms are always quiet. The fitness center (open 24/h) and the spa are also very decent, same with the restaurants (there's a Japanese restaurant that is overpriced and does very well convincing you of its authenticity until you taste the food..) The breakfast is also quite good, even though they try a bit too hard (Or not; although I'm never quite ready for things like paté and caviar in the morning...) Tip: If you plan on traveling out of Guangzhou, there's a travel agency on the main floor that can do all the booking for you at v. decent prices. The only thing that would be worthy of improving on is consistent pricing. I've managed to get extremely low prices before (559CNY/night) and will sometimes have to pay 800CNY+ without any specific reason.
