Fantastic hotel. Geared more towards the businessman than families with children however the service and rooms are the epitome of comfort... The chinese restaurant is fantastic and the hair salon great! For businessmen, the executive lounge is great where you can have your meetings in peace and yet be in the hotel.

** This review is for the Service Apartment across the hotel that we were moved to due to sold out rooms.

Location: The location of the hotel is good, right on the Line 2 Metro. If you are coming from the airport, you can take the metro all the way to the hotel with minimal hassle. There's one transfer but it's pretty easy to do. As both are at the beginning of the line, you shouldn't have an issue with crowds. Once in town, the metro is convenient to use to go to most places. You can walk to Beijing Lu in about 10-15 minutes.

Service: The check-in manager is honest in explaining that due to the Asian Games, the hotel is sold out. He explained that they can put us up in the Service Apartment next door, with the use of the Club Lounge and 10,000 Marriott points as a compensation. Since we were there for only 1 night, we didn't put up much fuss. We appreciate that the manager was upfront, and he explained that they didn't have much choices since the government asked for the block of room for the games. However, after spending the night in the insecticide smelling room, I would not have agree and insist on a room in the main hotel.

Food: We didn't eat. The breakfast in the lounge was ok, but my general impression of the hotel was already negative so not much appetite.

Gym/Pool: The gym area looks nice, but I didn't use.

Room: Again, this is rating the service apartment room across the hotel that we were put in. Awful, really nasty. Old, smelly, and depressing. I don't think this should be use for tourists as an overflow hotel. It's nowhere comparable. If you are in our situation and are able to go to a plan B (another hotel), do not agree to stay in the service apartment unless you are really ok with any accommodation.

The Verandah cafe on the Sunday night the was average. The soup was watered down.
The first night in the executive suite on the 17th floor, Their were children playing, with toys on the floor... an accident waiting to happen. One morning on the 4th floor the breakfast was cold everything was cold!!!

Very clean hotel with spacious rooms. We stayed in an executive room with two double beds on the top floor (18th). The only problem in the hotel and generally in Guangzhou is the communication. We found some difficulties to communicate in English. The people were very helpful, the receptionists speak almost fluent English but there were some communication problems in the restaurants of the hotel with the waitresses. Prime steakhouse offers excellent dishes, the Veranda typical buffet and casual dining and the Four Seasons Chinese cuisine. There are some more restaurants but we didn't try them all. There is also a shopping arcade connected to the hotel, including small shops, Starbucks and a massage center. The hotel's side door is on the metro station of Yuexiu Park but the hotel is not exactly in what you call center of the city.

China Hotel is in a reasonable location, close to the subway, also close to Beijing Pedestrian Street (near Gongyuanqian station) but if you're attending the Canton Fair or any other exhibitions at Pazhou you might want to opt for something closer (eg Shangri-La Pazhou). This hotel is really big with a huge number of rooms and during my stay it was packed with people. Apart from a frustrating issue with staff (albeit minor), there really isn't many negatives to give about this hotel. The room itself is amazing, comfortable beds, awesome double shower and bath, good decorations and prompt room service. Also depending on what side of the hotel your room is located, you can get good views over Guangzhou. I would recommend people staying at this hotel as it's definitely similar to other international 5 star hotels in terms of quality

I have been staying in this hotel for a week or two at a time during each of the last six Octobers. The hotel was completely and extensively refurbished within the last two years. The beds are very comfortable. The facilities are extensive, including a number of retail shops, convenience store, ATM, and a variety of restaurants. The efficiency of the staff is continually improving. The breakfast offers a wide variety of western and oriental food. The only drawback, for me, is the relatively high cost of internet connections--50 RMB (about $7) per hour or 500 RMB for a week. The in-room connections use an ethernet cable which is supplied. The electrical outlet accepts American-style 3-prong plugs, but make sure your power supply will also accept 220 volt input before plugging in.
