We have had the pleasure of eating at Le Grille three times, but the last time was the best. We booked a staff Christmas eve dinner and it was spectacular. The service, the food, the ambiance, everything. Louie made excellent arrangements and was a great host. Our server Carolina was professional, poised and perfect. The chef Nicolas prepared the best meal that we and our staff have ever eaten. Kudos all around for an unforgettable evening.

Esthetically a beautiful hotel with fantastic rooms. We had 2 rooms a King and one with double beds. They both had huge baths with separate toilet, shower, sink and a large soaking tub! Absolutely beautiful and incredibly spacious rooms. Minor detail but annoying, turndown service at night always assumed there was only one person. The housekeeping would put water only on one side of the bed with one glass. Slippers on one side of the bed! So which is the more important guest the husband or wife?

My first problem with the hotel. It only offered a buffet breakfast! Not a good choice if you are vegetarian or if you are trying to do some portion control! There is no place in the hotel except for room service for an a la carte breakfast menu! My husband had to meet with some local doctors in the morning and there was no place to sit and have coffee. The lounge area to the side of the lobby was only open at Tea time and yet you couldn't sit there to meet with people in the early morning. You sit in the lobby and try to discuss things and you are amongst all these other hotel guests with unwelcome interuptions.

Location of the hotel is great if you are getting picked up and dropped off for a couple of days. However if you have time to yourself and desire a place to stroll and shop, this is not a good location. There are no restaurants around (thus no place to run if you don't want the buffet). It is a bit of a busy street the hotel is on, so crossing to explore the other side is not an option either. For the adventurous person, a hotel in the center of town would be more ideal as Guangzho has some wonderful parks, shops and the Pearl River to stroll thru!

The Sofitel in Guangzhou provided a pleasant experience overall. On first appearance, walking into the hotel, I was a little overwhelmed by a fairly tacky lobby. It was overly perfumed and looked very much like the lobby of a Chinese hotel trying to be glamorous but just looking dated and not at all elegant. I was very pleasantly surprised then, to go upstairs, and find a nicely muted, wide hallway, and then a magnificent room. Although the view was not great, the room was beautifully decorated with very interesting and artistically cool pictures of Paris. The bed was comfortable. The bathroom was very well designed.

My primary criticism--service is still really lacking. On both check-in and check-out, the front desk was completely overwhelmed, haggard, frazzled, and snapping at customers. They seriously need more staff. I did mention the long wait to the check-in, and they sent up a really nice macaron tray as an apology. That was a nice gesture. Still, I would have preferred that they properly staff the front desk and create a smoother experience.

Obviously any sofitel requires a certain standard and this hotel meets it. The location is central and the rooms are well kept and clean. Though I was a bit perturbed by the long waiting time for both check in and check out. However the room service delivery guy was exceptional and motivated me to write this review.
