The hotel is located in central Guangzhou, but in a quiet neighborhood just across from and entrance to Yuexiu park. There is a Metro station (Xiaobei station) located within 5 minutes walk of the hotel. The initial impression of the hotel was very good. The doorman welcomed me in English and the hotel lobby is quite grand.
Unfortunately, when I arrived at the room my opinion changed. It seems that housekeeping had cleaned the room before the previous guests had checked out. There were used toothbrushes in the bathroom, open water bottles, open/used soaps and shampoo and used slippers on the floor. Also the duvet and pillows on 1 bed were wrinkled, like they had been laid on. Since it was nearly midnight and I had just been on a bus from Hong Kong for 3 hours, I didn't feel like changing rooms and cleaned up myself. Fortunately, housekeeping was better for the remainder of the stay. However, the beige carpet showed a lot of wear and just didn't seem clean.
There were only Chinese channels on TV (no English or any other language), not even CCTV news (CCTV 9). There was fee wired internet, but this is standard in most Chinese hotels. There was a nice view of Yuexiu park across the street, but unfortunately the windows did not open. The hotel has a nice large outdoor pool, but I only saw it from the window and didn't have a chance to try it out.
Overall the hotel was quite ok and a good value. Other than the issue with housekeeping on arrival, my stay was pleasant.
