“Just for the Canton Fair ! Far away from downtown !”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 14, 2013

The location is faboulous for the Canton Fair, you are almost in the exhibition center, about 2 minutes walking from the entrance or exit point.

Otherwise the hotel is modest, basic and without anything special. Just a place to sleep.

Location: fantastic for the Canton Fair, very far away from downtown or exploring Guangzhou.
You pay about 150 - 200 RMB on taxi fee everytime you want to get out and return to downtown.

Stuff: Smiley faces but nobody can't speak english so I think it took 30 minutes to check in.
Extremly tiring and frustrating that nobody couldn't speak or understand not even 2 words in english.

Room: very basic, nothing special, without personality, just a bed and a TV screen.

Bathroom: clean and modern.

Sleep quality: very good in comfortable bed.

Conclusion: great choice and good value only for the Canton Fair.

This hotel is the closest to the exhibition grounds if you don't want to pay Euro 200 and more per night. Value for money is outstanding - I had a huge room/suite for little money. As the previous reviews say: there is fast internet, a great shower, a nice flat screen TV (but only one English programme, which didn't bother me as I'm not there to watch TV); it's very clean. The staff tries their best but they don't speak English that well. The availability of taxis can be a problem, so rather leave a bit earlier to ensure that you get in time where you have to be as the staff sometimes struggles to help with this. Breakfast is okay but not does not really offer a variety of options for non-Chinese guests.
The previous reviews are also right regarding the not so nice stuff: the funny smell in the bathroom which occurred twice during my 5 day stay; the noise from the water pipes which can wake you up at an unpleasant time if your neighbour decides to take a shower at an unusual time; no restaurants close by. My colleagues tried the hotel restaurant and loved it - however, I wanted to go there the first night at 8.30 p.m. and it was closed already.
However, the pros clearly outweigh the cons - so if you have to attend one of the expos in Guangzhou, it's a safe bet.

This hotel was the best on our trip to China! The staff was very nice and always willing to assist us. The restaurant on the 5th floor serves authentic Chinese cuisine; it was excellent!!! The metro is very close, so it was easy to get around. Our room was very clear, Internet access worked great, bathroom had great shower with separate water heater, and the we even had a leg massage machine! The only down points were: replenishing toilet roll, a little water back-up in the bathroom, and no minibar stock (just an unplugged mini-fridge). Conclusion: I would do it again, great value!

Check-in service was efficient, no problems in locating the hotel via taxi- all you need is the name of the hotel in Chinese and the name of the building that it is located in. Pazhou is indeed very near, takes a 5 minute walk, but please bring an umbrella just in case it rains.

The hotel is basically a office/hotel, so certain floors are hotel rooms. Which also means you need to be extra patient when waiting for the elevator. Decor was nice and spacious. Provided the necessary amenities, including fast internet. The bathroom had a glass shower cubicle but be careful as there are no seals on the door so expect your bathroom to get wet. The heat of the shower water is controlled electronically, so you will have to set your desired temperature (they don't recommend anything other than 60degreesC) and wait for 15 minutes. Don't try taking shortcut by not waiting, 'cos I did and ended up taking a cold shower instead.

If you were like me, taking the Agoda package, it means breakfast is not included. Not to worry, you can either eat in the cafe downstairs at the lobby for 35Yuen. I found that the building opposite the road from the hotel- PWTC, has a massive food court. There's even McDonalds and Subway there. Buy early, 'cos your options may be limited to McD, Subways & Pizza if you get there around 5pm. If you walk along the outside road heading towards the exhibition centre, you can see the Subway sign, or you can just enter the building which is a high-class furniture & renovations building and walk towards the subway (underground).

Beware if you are staying in a non-smoking floor. From early evening until late night there was a very strong cigarette smell, really as if someone was smoking beside me. I had to sleep with the windows open, no air-con (it aggravated it) and slept by the window ledge just to get fresh air. I know it was dangerous, especially when you are 9 floors up (I stayed in room 905). It was noisy with the windows open. It was such a bad experience that I forfeited the room and left early. By the way, that's how I got sick too. Called front desk to complain but he didn't believe me and all he could do was to offer to send the room service personnel to help me air & freshen the room. Called agoda for help and intervention but the Agoda staff could not communicate the issue and the person-in-charge of the night shift cannot make any decision without the manager. I suspect that someone one the same floor was smoking and the smell travelled through the vent.

Also, I've no confidence in taking taxis that are parked alongside the road. So if you want a proper taxi you can ask the hotel staff to call one for you. Expect to pay about 200Yuen if you are travelling from BaiYun airport. Don't try taking metro..far and too many interchanges.

Room Tip: Make sure that your non-smoking room is on a non-smoking floor.

there are not many hotels near Pazhou. Those two others I think are quite expensive if you travel just on business. Many thanks especially to Paul !!! shift manager, he is a great guy, helps as much as he can, he was so kind to provide us with other room until our would be ready, Thanks to this hotel :)

Don't let the hotel entrance fool you. The rooms are great. Walking distance to the fair grounds. Make sure you write the hotel name and address in Chinese if you expect a taxi to get you to the hotel.

Great location right next to Pazhou Exhibition Centre and Metro line. 20 minutes to city,
5rmb or $1. Touchscreen vending machine in English was easy to use.
My taxi couldn't find the address because not written in Chinese - and no phone number on booking form.
Good hotel rates on www.agoda.com - a quarter of the 5star hotels' rates. Nice Asian breakfast included - or just 35rmb $6 if extra.
Managers very helpful and friendly but communication was difficult with reception staff.
Room had nice view of exhibition site and river except when smog was bad but it had an odour at times - perhaps because the window was open. Nice room and bathroom - not large and could do with a touch-up paint.
Internet was free but slow at times and I couldn't send emails - perhaps my PC settings.
I'd recommend it as a well-located, excellent value alternative to the 5 star hotels.
Warning - beware the hustlers at the airport selling taxi tickets (complete with receipt) and absconding without paying the driver. Others collect money for their private car at double the rate - signs, brochures even a desk! Don't pay anyone but the driver. The authorities must be asleep.
